Wonít fire up
« on: June 2, 2020, 12:28:00 pm »
Had my 88 ramcharger sitting up for a while so I dropped a hot battery in it and it turns over like a dream but it wonít catch. Iíve come to the conclusion that itís the fuel pump(mechanical). I need some help on exactly what I need since I donít know much about fuel pumps. Iíve tried the gas in the carb and it wonít stay running but it did shoot out some fire😂 Any help and advice is welcome. I need some links on the right pump just because I wanna make sure Iím purchasing the right shit and tips on easy ways to drop the tank and do the swap. Thanks yíall!

88 is carbed and mechanical fuel pump. It is on the side of the timing chain cover. 318? 360?

First things first is to take the fuel line off the carb and make sure you are getting fuel to the carb. If not check out the rubber fuel lines from the tank front. Fuel pumps are cheap so if you want to replace it and check things again go for it.
Once you know the rubber lines are good and you have a good fuel pump and fuel to the carb then it's the carb. What carb is on it? Rottenchester? I swapped out the Rottenchester for a 500 CFM Eddie and she works like a charm.

    Good luck
I'd rather push a DODGE than drive a chevy or a ford!!!!!!

Mine is a 1988 5.2 318 with a Holley carb that looks about as old as the truck. No EFI here. Thanks much for the response and tips. Definitely helped. Never had any problems with the carb at all and it may have been replaced years before I ever owned the truck.

Dodge used a throttle body on 88-91 5.2s that looks just like a carb.  Any pics?

Not at the moment Iím at work currently. I used to have pics of it. I will definitely have some by tomorrow morning. My apologies and I was worried about that after I started think about it. It may be a mock carb.
