Switch parking brake light / fuse box
« on: May 3, 2020, 10:21:48 am »
The light "parking brake put on" in the speedometer appears in my RC even when the brake is released. I know it comes from the switch at the pedal. Does anybody know what is broken? Does it come from the shaky mechanism of from the switch?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_tLdE-9aF0
Sorry for the bad video but it's not very comfortable down there ;-)

Does the brake light also appears when the lebel of brake fluid is low?

The fuse box is not fixed. Can someplease whow a picture where it should be fixed? Is it complete or does it miss the mount?

Thanks.

If you pull on the parking brake release knob, and lift up on the pedal with your foot, doe the light go out? If so, then you have a brake cable, or something in the rear brakes themselves, causing the pedal to not return fully.

The fuse block fits into tabs on the backside of the removable dash panel under the steering column. Chances are the bottom tab is broke off. Many of us just use a long ziptie, and secure it to the steering column.

You have the video as private, so no one can watch it.

Only two things turn on the brake light, the parking brake, and the warning switch in the proportioning valve.

Thank you! The shining lamp comes from the switch close to the pedal. The plug was taken off, as I put it back again the lamp appeared. Sometimes it goes off so there seems to be a problem with the contact pedal/switch. Hope the video is now visible for everyone. Don't know why yt turned it to private.

Thank you for the fuse box info, will check this tomorrow.

Looks like my dashboard is missing a part. I think the suse box belongs in the green circle. Will have to fix it somehow.

If you take that panel off, you can see the mounting tabs for the fuse box. The fuses face away from the panel, the round pegs on the fuse box goes to the top of the panel, the little pointed tab goes in hole at the bottom. Most of the time the harness is stiff and it can be hard to get it mounted the way it is supposed to be and you will frequently see the box tied to the column somehow.

I'll use a ziptie to fix the fuse box. Next winter I'll try to tidy up the whole dashboard electric.

Has anybody an idea about the electric switch of my hand brake? So far I'm not sure if I should bend the contact at the switch or better try to stabilize the mechanic hand brake mechanism. The video should run now.

The switch should be adjustable, but if the pedal isn't returning all the way up, you probably have a parking brake cable needing lube or replacing, possibly weak springs in the drum brake assembly.

Be careful tying the fuse box to the column. The back of fuse box is exposed and the column is grounded. I have only seen one ground out and it had some hack wiring added, but still something that I think about when I see a fuse box tied up that way.

The pedal comes (very) quick back up again when I realease it. The mechanic seems to be OK. It's only a bit shaky.

Dumb question but any way to see a couple of snapshots? My fusebox is hanging and don't see how it mounts back. DO the round pegs snap in like a lego?
