Size of Door Speakers for replacement
« on: June 2, 2020, 11:09:10 pm »
For a 1993 Ramcharger. I am wondering if the speakers in the doors are 6X9 ??? Same as the back ones?
And do they need a special mounting? Or can I just use a standard speaker from another use?

Thanks

100W 6x9 Triaxle speakers in the doors with a 600W amp and a 10" sub behind the seat.   ;D
I at one point have a 1000W amp with 4 6x9's and a 250W amp just for the 10" sub. The only 78 TD you saw with a convertible top and blaring  out 90's country with a thump.   ;)

Thanks guys. Went to the Crutchfield site. It doesn't say any mounting kits needed. Just standard 6X9's. That's easy.

Here's a picture that'll make you cry for several reasons:

I just did my 1991 speakers last night. Doors are standard 6x9s with a plastic holder that's easily removed. I installed these kickers in the doors.

    https://www.crutchfield.com/p_20646CC693/Kicker-46CSC6934.html

There's no adapter for the factory wiring for the front speakers so I just re-used the connector and stripped the wires and jointed them together to connect to the new speakers, made my own adapter. Took about 5 minutes.

All in all the biggest pain in the ass of the whole thing is pulling the door panel and replacing it without breaking any plastic pieces or bending those door panel prongs when pushing it back in. Sounds 100 times better than factory speakers.

I cut the openings bigger for 6x9's and cut off the lower door panel plastic.  Painted the lower door black. Installed the grilles that came with the speakers.

    No regrets.

Nice job Bud!  I appreciate your earlier picture of the back seat panel also. I have to do that one next.

6x9. Just did my 91 D150. I wasn't able to re-use the original plastic inserts.
    1. didn't clip in exactly right because there was a lip on the front of the new speakers unlike original
    2. because of the extra 3/8" lip, it stuck out a bit but still enough to get the door panel over it.

Unlike the red/black door above my door panels go all the way to the bottom and covered speaker without original or using grilles that came with the speaker.
