How to remove 02 sensor?
« on: May 19, 2020, 02:40:12 pm »
I rented the tools but they're too thick to fit in the small flange gap? What's the trick?

I've always used an old split wall sensor socket. You just have to be careful not to spread the socket open.

Really glad to hear Iím not the only one having issues with this.

Same thing, rented tools and the lip of the socket is too thick to slide on and seat. Not really any different than trying to get a wrench on it. Canít get enough purchase on the head to move it.  Not to mention so little room to work.

Have it if with PB Blaster several times but afraid to cut the pigtail off. Will I be able to move it if I still canít get the sensor out?

I bought a new o2 sensor socket at Napa for my 2001 2500. Used it on the 88 ramcharger works great. Don't remember the brand, cheap crap $9.99

the factory socket [dodge # C-4907] is a thin wall 12 point design , the 6 point sockets are to thick / below are links to a 12 point socket

NOTE / they are NOT cheap , my suggestion would be buy a thin wall 7/8's 12 point Chinese socket and cut a slot in it with a cut-off wheel

Yep. I borrowed one from Kragen. Too thick wouldnít slip on and seat. Returned it and bought a thinner cheaply from HF. It was thinner and would slide on better (6 pt.) but still not completely. Bad thing with thin walled socket with a portion missing, it twisted an wracked. Twisting force wiped it due to thin wall weakness and rounded off the head of the sensor. Between that and the right space to work with, I gave up and took it to a shop where they welded a nut on it and applied heat to get it off.

Good news is got the new one in and power issue improved.

Well, there was a miss that went away but still lacked power at low speeds and acceleration. Took it to get the cat checked out it was fine but replaced the muffler. Idle speed went back to normal, low end power and acceleration are back to normal. Amazing how well and engine works when it can breathe properly....
