2008 Aspen front driveshaft removal
« on: May 24, 2020, 08:37:58 pm »
I have a 2008 Chrysler Aspen which has a bad transfer case shift motor.  Have the new motor and today went to replace it, but first step is to remove the front driveshaft.  got the driveshaft removed from pinion, but there is a cross member that keeps it from dropping down.  there is not enough room around the pinion to slide the shaft forward to remove it from transfer case.

Has anyone worked on these and have any ideas...

FSM mentions exhaust crossover bolts from manifold and lower exhaust crossover.  I was not in the mood to start fighting with those bolts today, but didn't see how that would aid in getting the driveshaft out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

yup exhaust keeps it from sliding forwards , see diagram

NOTE / # 5 you dont hafta remove the clamp if you wrench them , other wise the clamp makes it so a socket does not go on straight

    Thanks for the replies.

I have had the transfer case shift motor disconnected (electrically) for over a year now.  I really have no need to shift the case with how I use this truck.

My son and I wheel in the Jeep and Ramcharger, I have only ever had the Aspen on the beach, and I would air down and the full time 4wd was fine thanks to the traction control system (which I think is one of the best I have seen)

So I will hold onto the new transfer case shift motor until I have another reason to drop the exhaust, then I will do the 2 birds 1 stone approach.

    Thanks again
