Went green
« on: April 15, 2020, 06:36:15 pm »
Traded the 17 Pacifica in on a 2020 Hybrid Pacifica. Been reading a lot of good stuff about the hybrids, the $7500 Federal tax credit, the $4000 Colorado, and a decent trade in, all helped. Took it for a long test drive, and was impressed with the setup. Basically the same engine that the 17 Pac has, along with two electric motor/ generators, make for a seamless transition from electric to gas, and back.

It is supposed to be a 32 or 36, mile range on the battery, but with the hills here, it recharges some going down hill, and when you hit the brakes. I was able to drive 46 miles before the engine kicked in. So I do not think I will have to add gas for quite a while, with the around town driving We normally do. We will see.  {cruise}

I hope it was a good move.  ???

    looks like a nice ride . an adventure into today as well .... What I wonder though , ma's '61 40 horse beetle got at least 45 mpg ( ma driving ) and my kids Geo Metro 3 cylinder got 45-50 with me driving it ,( both froze up the inside of the windows ) so whats the big deal over 32-36 mpg with all todays smarts ?

     yeah class 8's have waste gates and egr valves .... guess I know the B/S answer LOL still making more fuel delivering more fuel burning more fuel must have an environmental effect all in its self ... 1 mile per gallon even with a white stack cannot be all that good ...

    Gas from the 70's & 80's had more energy, or something, everything got better mileage back then. My 73 318 W200, got around 14 MPG. One of the requirements the Army had for vehicles back then, was that they had enough fuel to go 300 miles. With a 20 gal tank, that means they were supposed to get 15 miles / Gal. We planned the fuel points at 250 miles, and I do not recall any of the M880's not making it.

    My glass bodied dune buggy I built when I was in high school had a 1300 40 horser in it.
    But, BUT it had Erson High Lift Rockers, a High Flow Intake with a Zenith carb on it, high flow exhaust. AND a small diameter "Power Pulley". It was surprisingly quick.
    Of course, it was surprisingly light.

    I bet there is at least a dozen of those dune buggies here in Grand Junction. Only seen one come up for sale, and of course it was a time that was not good for me.

    I really enjoyed mine for the short time I had it before I stepped up for a real vehicle... my Power Wagon.
    Man that was a long time ago.  :)
    I sold it to some guy in Bullhead City, Arizona. I wonder if it's still there.
