Rear 56" GM springs to fit Jungles hangers
« on: December 13, 2012, 03:20:10 pm »
I must compliment Jim ( Jungle) on his hard work to create what I believe is the best bolt on mod for a 1st gen RC or Truck.  The combination of his hangers and flip kit in a bolt on package combined with the 56" GM leaf spring are absolutely amazing in terms of ride and performance.

Dont take my word for it.....read the comments from other members.  This is a setup that Dodge "SHOUD HAVE" built from the beginning.  It really is a night and day difference.

There seems to be some confusion around the 56" rear springs.  Using Jungles hangers you will achieve approximately 2" more lift than the spring itself was advertised to give in its original GM application.   Therefore if you need 6" of lift (from the spring) ........ then you will want to run a 4" (advertised) lift 56" spring.

Take into account that you will lose 3-3.5" by removing the factory block and the additional height that will be gained from the flip and hanger kit as you have ordered it from Jungle.

TO CLARIFY....IF AFTER YOU HAVE INSTALLED YOUR HANGERS AND FLIP KIT FROM JUNGLE AND YOU NEED A SPRING THAT WILL GIVE YOU 6" OF LIFT IN ADDITION TO WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE THEN YOU NEED TO ORDER THE 4" GM ADVERTISED LIFT SPRINGS.

THE 2" OF EXTRA LIFT FROM THE SPRING IS NOT THE TOTAL AMOUNT YOU WILL GAIN.  I AM STATING THAT THE SPRINGS THEMSELVES ARE 2" TALLER IN A RAMCHARGER THAN THEY WOULD BE IF USED IN THEIR ORIGINAL APPLICATION!

Pro Comp 13511 is the 4" advertised lift spring that most are running

Pro Comp 13611 is a 6" advertised lift leaf spring

I also have a 2" advertised lift leaf spring as well in the 56" variety.

If you have any questions contact Jungle or myself  BEFORE you order.

    Chris,
With my rear spring front hangers & my shackle flip & with the 4" lift 56" spring with NO block & no over load spring I got 7 3/4" lift in my 88 RC.
    The combo I am going to put in my gold RC will be;
2" lift 56" springs, my rear spring front hanger & shackle flip hanger & I should have 6" lift with NO block.

    Does that help some?

Thank you for the kind words!!!
    Jim

If you guys need springs of any kind call Chris because he has awesome deals for the RCC members!!

    Jim-

Excellent info there.  Im sure this will help clear up alot of the confusion surrounding this mod as far as NET amount of lift gained from the springs and hangers together.

...ya know, we're not sure yet, but Homer and I are thinking now that we may need a less lift spring than the 13511's.  We have about 3 inches too much lift in the rear  What is the pn# for the 2" lift 56 spring?

so in a nut shell from what im reading:

if you use jungles shackle flip/spring hanger set up and removed the rear block, your going to need a 56" spring with 2" less lift than your overall net lift goal?

lets say i want to get rid of my rough country 4" rear lift springs (which i do) im running now that do not have a block. id want the shackle flip/hangers from jungle and a set of 2" lift 56" springs from tide water?

You can use a Dodge or chevy spring with my hangers with the correct bushings. How much lift are you looking for with the 56" springs?

im looking to maintain my current 4" lift i have now. if i can use a factory length dodge spring to keep from figuring up new hanger placement that would be appealing, but would also be willing to use a longer spring for the ride and flex

Jim, there's about 24 inches in the rear, and about 21 inches up front - yah we need to 'lose' a couple inches (so do I - too many holiday cookies  ;D ).

What's the pn# for the "2-inch" version of the 56" Chevy spring?  Pretty sure we're gonna go there...

    Sam,
Take that 24" subtract the 3" body lift, subtract that 12 3/4" stock RC height & that gives you 8 1/4" lift with a complete RC with a gas tank. Did you leave the over load in?

The GM springs use standard bushings and sleeves so if you have a 87-93  this will still work with Jims kit.  Also.... most dodge aftermarket rear springs use a 1/2" or 9/16" diam sleeve for all years....

I'm a little confused here, so I hope Chris or Jim can explain this to me:

I have stock lift (meaning blocks in the rear), and I want to go 6" with no rear blocks, then should I order your 4" kit so that I can go all the way up to 6"?  What extra work should I consider as well? Do I have to cut/relocate something? and finally, does your kit comes with everything I will need (springs, hangers, etc) or should I look for certain other parts myself?

Sorry for asking so many question, but I just don't want to order the wrong kit, and I don't want to go through the pain in the a** of looking for extra parts down here, where they are way hard to find.

Thanks a lot for your help

    Memo

note: Chris, in case I do not need anything else, and in case the one I need is the 4" kit you told me about, please PM me with payment details.

    Thanks!

I have installed the ProComp #13511 Chevy 56" leafs under the back end of several Dodge trucks  - all with great results.  Seems to be a very good rear spring for a full size truck {cool}.

Matter of fact I have the 13511 springs under the front of my rock truck, and a set of the ProComp 13711 63" springs under the back  8)

Mad max, do you yhink that the pro comp 56 leafs would be a good flexy fit for under the rear of a ramcharger. Im out in the so cal desert so im gonna see my far share of rocks on the trail. I have a bunch of jungles hardware going on my truck and for what ive seen of your engineering i would feel very comfortable with your suggestions.

Mad max, do you yhink that the pro comp 56 leafs would be a good flexy fit for under the rear of a ramcharger.

absolutely {pope}.  I think those 13511 leafs are an ideal fit for a RC - they ride nice and flex great.  If the truck is going to have a lot of power I definitely recommend leaving the leaf packs intact including the overloads.  The overloads really help in limiting axle wrap.

I can offer the following build thread (below) on Homer's 450 hp RC, "Levi", starting at reply #131 is when we started on the rear suspension, which included Jungle's kit and the 13511 leafs.  We removed the overload and the lowest leaf, which ultimately was the wrong choice as the leafs had too much axle wrap, so pls disregard that part of the build...
