It has been done before but you have to add the pieces that the tailgate hinges on, the latch plates and the lanyards.  I think the change is permanent as I don't think the liftgate will close with those parts added to the jam.  Also keep in mind that with a large gaping hole in the back of your Ramcharger, you will be sucking all the exhaust back inside the vehicle.

 

Yea i plan to cut down the hatch to meet the top of the tailgate. I just cant stand the factory hatch, Being a tall guy with a short truck is a pain, literally, ive hit my head pretty good on it more than once. At least with the clamshell style rear, my knees will hit the tailgate before my head hits the glass.

l,ve done this several times and works good ] not have pictures[ to start with you hafta cut the gate long so it over laps the TG then trim the inside so it fits over the TG and closes nice

 

Being a short guy(5'9) with a stock suspension with 33s on my RC sucks getting at things under the hood. I need a freakin step stool. My lift gate pistons are worn out, the damn thing likes to crash down on top of me sometimes, I use my old fiberglass CV antenna to prop it open. It would be neat to have a tailgate though.
