NV4500 v8 gas clutch/flywheel?
« on: October 15, 2020, 10:12:02 pm »
So I've got myself a NV4500 from a 95ish V8 truck. The engine I want to use it on is a '90 360LA (TBI/A518). It has the '95 bell & fork too.

Anyone have the formula handy? My intuition says a '90 flywheel and a '95 clutch? (providing they bolt together) '95 pilot bearing? '90 starter?

flywheel must match the engine , 318 has neutral balance while a 90 360 L/A has the balance external , that is the flywheel , while a '95 360 magnum has external as well it is a slightly different amount  than the 360 L/A ... I'd use a mini type starter , ( either will work ) the pressure plate should bolt up , pilot bearing and holder should work .

important that the clutch master be ALMOST at the bottom of its stroke when the pedal hits the floor/stops . An adjustable push rod may be required .

What you said, and make sure your crank is drilled deep enough for the input shaft tip.  Use the magnum pilot bearing, its a much better design.

    Yes, you're right
Use a flywheel for a 90 360- everything will bolt to it.  should be 143 teeth (11 inch)
Use a clutch kit for a 95 because it is that 1 1/8-10 input shaft spline thing, not the normal 1-23.  Some nv4500 were 19 spline also-but rare and early 92-93.  They also make 12 inch clutches for these trucks- it seems the 11 inch clutches have more friction disk surface area but the 12 inch has more effect being farther out.  The 11 inch clutch in my 92 has better feel than my 88 with the 12 inch.  The 92 had a 12 inch taken out because I had the OE 92 flywheel resurfaced and turns out SOME of the clutches are scalloped!  Pissed me off to find that out.  Needed a straight edge and a call to the company.

Definitely measure the input shaft to make sure its not too long.  agree on the magnum style input pilot bearing
