Anyone put bucket seats in their ram?
« on: September 30, 2020, 12:45:36 am »
I have a 94 Dodge ram 2500. It used to have the powered 40/20/40 split bench seat. I say used to because dodge electronics are crap and plastic gears in the seat motor suck. The plastic gears stripped out and in a pinch I had to tack weld the seat sliders in place so the truck was driveable. A friend has a set of subaru Impreza bucket seats I could have for $25. So I was thinking of modifying the split bench seat so that the center seat/storage bolts into the floor and then mount the impreza seats where the factory seats would normally go. Not being able to adjust the seats is kinda a bummer, but the real icing on the hate cake is just how uncomfortable and unsupportive the stock seats are after towing for a couple hours...So Im wondering if anyone has swapped in a set of bucket seats from another manufacturer/aftermarket and retained the center console/ middle seat?

Not sure how your seats mount.  Bucket seat equipped RCs have a couple of supports that bench versions supposedly lack.  Are you removing the bench mounts entirely, or mounting a bucket to the existing frame in place of the driver's 40%?

That's backward.  Bench seat trucks and Ramchargers don't have the reinforcements for the inner set of bolt holes on each seat.  The bench seat mounts in the same outer holes as the buckets, so they are always there, regardless of seat option.

Unfortunately, none of this applies to the BR series the OP is asking about.

Cut the stock seat apart and try it.  I think you'll find this will be trial and error as I doubt many here have swapped subaru seats into a 94-up truck.  You could also build a seat frame out of box tube that holds both seats and the center console and then just bolt that framework to the floor in the factory holes.

I did similar with my aftermarket bench. My buddy helped me with a small square-tube frame. You can mount any common set of seats that way.
