88 dakota no wipers
« on: October 30, 2020, 08:01:04 pm »
The wipers on my 88 dakota stopped working a couple weeks ago mid stroke. Yesterday I was able to test stuff and I figured that the wiper motor was bad because it had continuity between the high/low windings and the position switch. Today I set out to replace the motor with either one from my collection or another parts truck. The first motor I tried had a break in the wiring, so I grabbed the motor and linkage from a 93 dakota parts truck. The motor worked perfectly on the parts truck btw. I noticed the bushings were shot on the parts truck and they gone on the 88, so I went to the store and got new ones. I installed the new bushings with some grease and installed the new motor. Before I put everything back together I tested it and it worked great, after I put the cowl cover back on I turned the wipers on to get an idea where the resting spot was. The wipers worked for a second and they havent come back. I even put in a separate ground from the wiper bracket to the firewall. Other than needing to fix a collection of now broken parts including some drywall in the house I'm not anywhere closer to driving the truck, and I was gonna use it to drive out to my dad's tommarow. So any ideas what the hell is wrong with it?

In hindsight, maybe it wasn't the best decision to work on my truck after hearing news that my dad is getting a divorce...

Sorry about that. Imagine how he feels... it's an awful thing to go through. I'm not sure how I managed to get through mine. Couldn't do it a second time.

Before my anger the switch was loose in the column but it still was making the intermittent wiper module click when I turned the switch so I think it was doing something, but seeing as I ripped it out of the steering column I have no choice but to fix it.

If its the same column switch assembly as a 92 RC I have one you can have.  Replaced mine, turns out it wasnt the problem.  I think I still have the old one.
