I just wanted to check if there were still events going on? I am in PA, but I don't mind driving a few hours to meet up. I will dig around the rest of the site to find anything going on.

Thx

...I am considering organizing a RJ 2020 gig in Moab - bit of a haul for the east coasters tho...

It would a long haul for me from VT, but a great time checking out Moab again.

I will be watching this thread.

...there's nothing in any book that says RamJam can't happen more than once or in two different places in the same year - many folks can't make it from one side of the country to another so having one or two in the same year at different locations and/or at different times (one in the spring - one in the fall for example) is fine - there is no rule book - all that is 'usually' required is for someone or a small group or chapter to organize something and honcho it from start to finish, and serve as the single point of contact for questions etc.

That said I do love Moab and I just may organize something for 2020.

If you do get something organized I will try to make it.

...first thing I have to do is get the Dakota put together - that build officially began this weekend - but yah I'm really looking hard at a 2020 run - ideally in the Aug-Oct time frame.  I'll definitely keep everyone posted {cool}

...I'll be updating this thread {cool}. Also...I am not any kind of 'authority' on where/when a RamJam can be - I've organized one RJ in the past but anyone that wants to organize one can do so. There's never any guarantee of any large turnout but even if there's just a few RCC members (and friends/guests) then it's always a good time.

But yes, that all said, I'm currently looking at doing a Fall of 2021 event in Moab {pope} {cool}

well, no updates really - this year has just about been a total wash but personally I've been able to get the wrench time in on the truck, and I'm hoping to have it rolling next year.  That said I've no idea right now if I'll be able to do a Moab run in 2021 - too many variables up in the air just as yet, but, I do have it on my long-range radar so I'll be chiming in as things progress.

However, that all said, anyone can organize a Moab run.  If I can't make it there no reason a RamJam Moab gig can't happen in 2021 :) .

...so I'm still bolting my rig together...and I'm pretty certain - no I am certain, that I cannot organize a RamJam21 gig in Moab. That said, I think a RJ 22 Moab gig is fairly possible, and I will be trying to put that together, and I'll keep everyone updated as things progress. Sorry for the no joy info for this year - just too much going on. Hopefully next year! :)

...just to keep anyone interested in the loop, the best times to be in Moab are early/late in the year (March-April, and Sept-Nov), so if I (or anyone) wants to organize a RJ22 gig I'd recommend those times of the year, ideally October. I have a fairly young family (3 kids below the age of 4 and a very, very hard-working, patient, loving, amazing wife/CINCHOME), so any plans I make to be away for several days can be derailed at any time, so if I do plan a RJ22 gig I will aim for October, and I will aim for 3-4 days on the trails - attendees plan their own logistics for travel time to/from (for us it's an 8-hour haul). We do have a 'Ken' - RCC member Ken "Moabion", who lives in Moab and has a shop which is almost always utilized for repairs on every trip there.

Anyway, just keeping prospective member in the loop as to what 'might' happen in late 22...at least if I'm planning it ;) .

Lastly - anyone who hasn't wheeled Moab should have a look at the pics n vids at this link - if this all looks like fun then a trip to Moab will be good stuff, but if either you personally or your rig may not be up to the mental and mechanical tasks evident in these vids...well just consider that Moab will test every single bolt on your driveline, and for sure test your cooling systems, especially steering and transmission.

Fair warning: Moab trails are super fun, super challenging, and can be super dangerous. There are continuous opportunities for D&D - Death and Destruction. So, no one attending a RCC event with me will see anyone drinking in the trail, going off trail, or doing anything that would otherwise get us kicked off the trail or worse, getting it closed permanently. Many powers that be would love to close the off-road trails and make everything hiking or biking trails only, and we do not want to do anything to give those powers more ammo than they already have. Ok - that all said, enjoy the pics :)

If anyone from PA or the east coast in general is seriously interested in going I would definitely be open to making the haul out together, always better to travel in flocks right? I am definitely game to make the trip out as long as my spring shakedown runs fair okay. Ive been east coast wheeling for years so Im not new to the game but I am new to MOAB, so if any of you MOAB guys have advice Im all ears....Im running a 91 W350, 5.9 TBI, NP435, NP205. Locked front, Limited Slip rear, 4.10s. Bobbed bed, winch up front, fuel tank relocated to the bed. New tires this spring probably 35-37" was gonna go with Q78 swampers (good east coast tire).

It's 8 hours from my house to Moab, and in 2014 we had several RCC members crash here overnight enroute to the last RamJam, and while I can't offer lodging I can offer a cold beer and a place to make repairs or check things out before the last 8-hr leg to Moab.

Your truck sounds pretty well suited for Moab, and honestly it doesn't take much 'machine' to do the majority of the trails there, but ones faith in their machine will definitely be put to the test. If you like the super steep roller coasters, you'll love Moab - lot like that...just suuuuuper slow. When you're aiming straight up going up some of the steeeep stuff will have you asking yourself...'I tightened the u-joint straps, didn't I?', or '...my seat bolts are tight, right'? Same for the straight down parts right after - 'my brakes are good, right'? It's hard to imagine just how puckery it can feel...but most of the time it just 'feels' that way.

One thing that will very definitely be put to the test are your cooling systems, especially transmission and power steering, but of course if ya get hot we just stop to hang out n cool off. Also, any potential issues with your steering linkage will be discovered there.

Best way to get an idea of what it's like there is through videos. Not bragging or anything like that, but I have lots of vids of myself there in my last truck, along with my wife in her old Cherokee. If this looks like fun, Moab is for you :) . Check out these videos of me and my wife n friends on some trails out there - this one is 'Fins n Things' -

Behind the Rocks (one of my faves) -

...a particularly dangerous section on Flat Iron Mesa - this is called 'The Intimidator', and it is not optional -

this is me going up one of the most difficult and challenging (and optional) sections of 'Hells Revenge' called 'The Escalator', the rest is bits from Poison Spyder and BFE -

So Ive been looking into making it to Moab in fall of 2022 and rooms are like $300 a night? Anyone local have any ideas on where to stay for a reasonable price or even in what area Id want to stay?

#27 ·
I like to search VRBO. You can find some pretty nice places and some places that are reasonably priced. But, like Mad Max said, book early if there is an event. Hotels, VRBO, and AirBNB(commies) fill up fast.

a lot depends on what is happening in town that particular weekend, and some events draw lots more people than others, and the weekend you looked up might be one of those busier (and more lucrative) weekends. But, $300 a night - is that for one room with one bed? We typically book the same condo about 6-8 months out and cram as many people into it as possible.

I can't yet forecast if I can organize a RJ22 gig - odds are good that we can do it, but I may try to plan it to coincide with our club's annual gig there which is typically planned for Sep-Nov. Our planning mtg is in March, and once I know when it's going to be I'll tell them I want to combine it with the RCC gang ;) .

I pretty much searched every weekend throughout august september and october lol, Yep just your standard hotel room with one bed, anywhere from 250-300 a night.....I mean its hard to book ahead without dates and without knowing if anyone else is interested in sharing.....Keep us updated here Sam, Like I said I am down for coming out but I may be staying in a tent....
