    Right on fellas {cool}  Keep it coming folks.  The more input we get the better the chances of it becomming 'official'  ;).

    I've been considering expanding the dates for this gig, to span 5 days vs 3.  The reason for this is because there will very likely be two distinct groups participating, those that will be trailering their rigs and want to do the 'difficult +' hard core stuff like Metal Masher, Golden Spider/Crack etc, and those that will be doing the good 'difficult' trails like Hells Revenge, 7-Mile, and Fins...and those like me that will want to do all of it :).

    In years past...well three trails always goes 'fast' - it's over too soon just like every vacation.  But I'm thinking of doing a combination of 'hard-core' trails and 'difficult' trails.  Actual trails TBD - no need to determine those yet.  But, this way, if folks want to ride along on the hard core stuff they can likely hitch a ride with those doing them, while also not missing their opportunity to do their own trails.

    So, here's what I'm proposing:  Trail days Monday-Friday.  Travel to/from on the weekends prior.  This gives everyone (especially those travelling a long way) a chance to travel Saturday and have Sunday as a 'spare' day to 'recover' a bit, maybe make some last minute repairs etc, without having to squeeze it all into the night between travel and trail.

    My wife and I will likely spend a nice day Saturday taking our time travelling there, then Sunday we can do some sight-seeing, get some souveneirs, etc etc.  Then, Monday, game ON - for five awesome days  8).  Then, a leisurely travel day back...and then all day Sunday to recover before heading back to work Monday.

    Of course, folks can arrive/depart whenever they want throughout the week and participate as much or as little as they want.  Just seems to offer more options, and for sure a real awesome slug of wheelin if ya do all 5 days 8).

    So, that's the plan.  Revised trail dates are:  Sep 22-26, Monday-Friday.  Travel before/after at your leisure.  Which trails and when will be figured out later.  There are lots of possibilities with this so let's hold off on making those plans for a while.

    Sounds good Sam.

    It was 800 miles each way for me. That's about 12hrs each way. I had some issues but as long as your truck is in shape it really isn't a bad trip. As long as it's a RamJam we'll be back again. Otherwise the wife wants to explore somewhere else. We've been two years in a row. My wife puts up with a lot and is way cool about it. LOL.

    Earlier means 90-100* temps. The vast majority of events in Moab are April -May and September -October. Cold winters and hot summers.  But that's part of the reason you have the amazing landscape.

    usually so long as an event like this is after Labor Day the crowds aren't too bad...and they can be pretty bad.  So I'm open to any dates really - the end of Sept is just the place-holder w.a.g.  The great thing about late Sept is the Fall colors are in full swing - the changing colors of the trees and the scenery through Colorado was amazing this last time  :o

    Do we need to put it up for a vote? How was this year's decided post Sam's sale of the site? I haven't seen suggestions for anywhere else. ???

    my pics are up from this year's gig  :) .  Funny - I didn't take one pic from Hells Revenge, just vids.  Vids forthcoming  ;)

    Honestly I'm not sure 'how' the locations get selected - I think it's just based on feedback from those that post up etc.  I don't know if there is a 'committee' within RCC (or ever was?) that officiates the location(s).  I can say this tho - we're going either way  8).

    It has always been gathering of nominations/suggestions up to a randomly determined date. then they were consolidated into a vote, which was up for a month or so. I don't think there was any set times or limits, just handled by gut feeling each year.

    I started the nomination process.

    Wherever RJ14 is I think its a possibility we could do it. I am wondering if people who are planning to go from the East coast could someway coordinate rally points so for us out here could possibly link up and convoy to RJ14 at the sometime?

    Convoys are actually a big part of any RamJam, and they sort of naturally form up based on who is coming and from where.  We always have a big Danver rally point, and is usually the last leg of any trip from folks coming from the East.

    Typically whoever volunteers to be a convoy/rally coortinator lives in the general area and pre-greases good truck stops, gas stations etc, and best routes to take, particularly based on local construction/detours etc.  So yes indeed, and if you want to handle the 'East' rally/convoy I'm sure folks will join in.

    based on a few e-mails in other forums I think there's a good chance some big trucks may be coming down from Canada  8).  This could end up pretty freakin' awesome.  I better get busy and get my truck built!  ;D

    oh yeah - without a doubt  :) .  I really want to do 5 days in Moab - 5 actual 'trail days' from Monday-Friday, with the two weekends on both ends for travel and having plenty of time.  We'll likely stay in the KOA again - we love the rustic and simple cabins - they're perfect, and we love being in the 'dirt' and not in a parking lot.  The cabins are just great.  Anyway, a cabin at the KOA is about $100/night, and well worth it.  You bring your own linens etc, and the bathroom / shower house is just 150 feet away.  It's 'camping' without really ruffin' it, and you park the truck right next to your site.

    Even if this doesn't turn into a RamJam (which is possible if the masses nominate a different location) the event will still happen, and we'll still welcome everyone same as if it was a RamJam.  In other words, it doesn't have to be an official RJ for these Moab trips to happen.....(we go every year  :) )....but we sure want it to be a RJ gig because there will be a lot of 'extras' {cool}.

    Don't forget to ping the sticky at the top of the RamJam board to nominate Moab for 2014 {cool}  ;D  -

    If I nominate how could I help out, we have never been there before.  I have heard of MOAB and think it would be a right of passage.  The only thing I could do is perhaps design a RJ14 logo for t-shirts. I may also have access to a vinyl machine to print stickers. Maybe a decal for the window or bumper sticker? I could start a thread about logos for RJ and take input from RCC members and design a few ideas and have a vote.

    And now I'm thinking about a RRC logo that can be had for windows as well.  I do have a degree in art and would be happy to post some of my work on RCC.

    But before I would do this I need input from RCC and permission so as not to step on any toes.

    I think because I am the honcho for RJ2014 at Moab, all you would need is permission from me to do that...and I'm tempted to say 'yes' immediately.  :)

    Back in '06, there was a guy BigDaddy (Doug?) I believe who honcho'd tee-shirts, and folks signed up in advance for those, he had them made/brought them, and folks paid him there.  It was great - I still have mine.

    Submitting for ideas would be great, but they should remain ideas and not actual possibilities for voting - that's way too much work.  I've been working a design for the event - would apply to the tee-shirts, decals, etc, so I'll work that with you and then when we get it just right please go ahead and have them made - that'd be awesome.  We'll post the final version well in advance and folks can sign up for how many they'd want, and if you want to set up a paypal account folks could pay you way in advance.  Not sure how best to work that out but I'm sure it'll work out well.  You and I can work that stuff off line - no problem.

    Kate, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the event design I have in mind  :)

    I look fwd to working on this. Once we get the design hashed out I will look into the vinyl for stickers. Im thinking some small badge size stickers for the windows. Think of it as a series of stickers that will follow with a new year and location for rj. So for example some rigs may have a series of stickers, something like braging rights for there rig. People will identify that rig and will see where its been.

    yup, you n me think a lot alike.  I'd love to initiate a decal that can be repeated for years to come for future events just like this.  The NHRA does it, etc etc, so why can't we?!!  ;D

    I just PM'd you my e-mail address - I'll send you the artwork I came up with.  It is very 'Moab' {cool}

    Hey Sam, did you guys have to get a permit for 06? I know we haven't in recent years but the turnout has been smaller. Although there was what, 10 rigs or so in 08? If we need one is it date specific? Would Ken know?

    Been thinking about the convoy to RJ14 and I think we need a CB radio in the rig.  It would be nice to know others who may join in has a CB radio as well.  Dang that means I need to shop around for a CB.

    I'll toss in  another vote for Moab

    I will be coming down from Alberta Canada.

    The Labor Day weekend should work the best for me

    There may be some more CDN's in my group that would be interested, ill get the word out and post back with some possible numbers.

    I have been wanting to make my first trip to Moab for quite a while now. I've been in contact with Sam and this sounds like an event not to missed!

    Hopefully we can get a good northern group together and meet everyone down in UT, eh {cool}

    I have been pretty much dodging this thread, trying to resist temptation.

    I would have to come alone (if my family would go for it) if it's Sept/Oct because that's school volleyball season and my daughter has a good shot at some future scholarship action.  Then I'd probably feel totally selfish.
    I wish these things could happen during the summer but there's understandable creature comfort concerns with heat.

    IDK, I'll discuss this with the fam.  A Moab wheeling trip is on the bucket list...  {think}
    It would be cool to meet everybody and share some adventure.

    the other thing about before /on labor day, is the crowds - the town and trails are pretty full up until just after labor day.  The trip tho...is totally worth the effort.  It's one of those things you'll never stop talking about  8).  ...and we'd love to meet you and your gang - the comradery is always a great part of these gigs {cool}

    I've always had the same dilemma.  In 08 I let my younger daughter skip to come with me. She loves off-roading. She is living with mom now and can't come but Sarah has two little ones, 5 and 3. Debating on bringing them next year. They stayed with grandparents the last two years because they were so small. Going to take them camping in the desert this winter/spring and see how they do.

    I can tell you the trip is worth it. Next year will be my 4th trip. The last two have been from San Diego.  Most of you know this year wasn't smooth sailing but we still loved every minute. Besides the off-road trails there is mountain biking, hiking, river tours/rafting and horseback tours even. The views from the trails and at the various National Parks are even better than the pics can ever show. Anyone that can make it will not be sorry.

    Less than 25 vehicles = no need for permit.
    25+ requires a special use permit and the user fee for non commercial groups is $5/participant/day. Might be some other ancillary fees but not too bad. But you would love the flow chart of the permit process.  ::)

    well i'm hoping to be ready to head down. just a 2000km  trip one way. i dont think my swampers will last there and back so i think borrowing a truck is a better idea for me.

    so if anyone else want to convoy down, im heading down though north western washington state in a south east direction.

    The Labor Day weekend should work the best for me.

    The local Red Rock 4 Wheelers have an organized safari that weekend. It is not as big as Easter but there are a half dozen trails each day of the weekend.  www.rr4w.com for details. It is also a busy weekend as it is that last hurrah before winter for many of the people from upstate.  It frequently is still a bit toasty around here too then.  I would recommend waiting till somewhere around the last week of Sept.

    I would have to come alone (if my family would go for it) if it's Sept/Oct because that's school volleyball season and my daughter has a good shot at some future scholarship action.

    My volleyball kid was a Senior last year and I completely get where you are coming from on that one.  If your schedule is like ours you are toast.  :-\

    Hiya Folks! {wave}

    As you know, several of us are in favor of having RJ2014 in Moab, Utah, on 25-29 Sept (Mon-Fri) Revised trail dates are:  Sep 8 - 12, Monday-Friday..  As part of the official process for RamJam nominations, please visit the following thread started by George (SuperBurban) for the official nominations for RamJam (this thread is 'stickied' at the top of the RJ board - many have missed it).

    Please reply with your 'vote' for whichever location you would like.  We will be making the final determination for the RJ2014 location soon, so please vote in and be heard.  :)
