it was closed many years ago, but I'd try it if it was open - once.

Thinking if that video of the Lion's back crash, obviously you should always do regular safety checks on your rig. But at places like Moab it's especially important.  I believe that crash was one because she wasn't in the right gear and her brakes failed. That's as I remember. Brakes are extremely important there. We all know to check our brakes and so on but triple check lines, wheel cylinders and calipers. It's easy to miss last minute issues just before a big road trip. Make a checklist and get to all of it. Twice at least.

Is that why they closed it? Because of that accident?

I believe that crash was one because she wasn't in the right gear and her brakes failed.

...and, the driver panicked.  Emergency situations like those are when throwing the truck into park or hitting the E-brake can save your bacon.

Brakes are extremely important there. We all know to check our brakes and so on but triple check lines, wheel cylinders and calipers. It's easy to miss last minute issues just before a big road trip. Make a checklist and get to all of it. Twice at least.

Completely agree.  It is so easy to overlook something - like checking all fluids...even the ones you thought you already checked...like the transfer case oil.... ::)

Make a checklist, and only mark the items off once you have actually checked it.

Yeah now that I think about it and reading more I remember several years back an article in 4wor about it being bought and closed. I also read that blazer had been up and down three times and he let his wife drive and the brakes got too hot on the way down and wouldn't hold. Crazy, but they lived to tell about it. There's also a 4 runner down one side in a hole where some folks went off the side, they lived too, but the truck is still there.

going up is always worse for me.  Coming down I already know I didn't die on the first half, and the odds just get better and better as you get lower and lower......

I have done it twice, both times in our full size Bronco. Neither up or down bothered me, it was the turning around on top that is a little sense defying.

My wife and I planned to be in Moab around the dates. We have prior engagements(1 year anniversary) but will do our best to stop and say howdy. Did not plan to have the RC on this trip just the Super Duty but I do have a trailer  {idea}.

No thanks. I'm not one for things like Loins back!  {no}  But I would have to say I think going up would be better accept for the fact that you have to turn around up there. The turn is what would get me!  :o

Yeah, the wing and a prayer approach is not recommended.  LOL. I went through everything except the radiator since "it worked fine". Add some brand new parts failures and a foolish decision by me to do my HEI conversion days before, it's amazing we made it back and forth. Use my trip last year as a reminder like I said before. Checklists are your friend. ;D

...so in case anyone is looking at the KOA, there are several new cottages along the SE side and a bunch of us moved our rsvp's over to those.  The parking looks to be really good and the cottages are all in a row so those of us that book there will all be able to hang out easier during the evenings.

This is the map to the KOA - the area circled in blue is where we're going to be -

...I didn't see where it says the trail might be shut down?  Was that published somewhere or was that (hopefully) just speculation?  Back to the root cause - I just can't believe there are people who would think taking a fossil like that would be 'okay'.  I pity the fool if they get caught.

This has been on the local news a lot, no mention of closure however.

It's strange, as many times as I have been on HR, I never knew there were prints on it. I know where several others are but not on HR.

Sarah is looking at other options besides the koa as we type.  LOL. With this being 3 years in a row for us, I've gotta give her a chance to find option B. If we do the koa again it'll be the cottage. She won't do the 2am bathroom walk this time for a week.  ;D I'll keep you posted.

May have to go that route myself. My son just moved here and of course, needs financial assistance. {read I have to pay for almost everything} Between that, the RC redo, the new garage, $800 worth of gas just to get there and back, spending money and consequentials, may have to take the tent to the pawn shop and sleep in the back of the truck.

Hell....you guys won't mind it too bad if I don't bathe for week will you? May have to take up a collection for a bag of clothes pins and some Febreeze. ;D
