Don't you guys know that "drones" automatically means bullets from the sky and spying?  :P

I want one of those for following me on the mtn bike trails.

Actually I see those kind all the time. I live close enough to hear and see the training exersizes at Camp Pendelton.  ;D they use them for artillery spotting.

    Edit:
I watched that video again when I got home on my tv. That remote camera makes the jeeps look like RC toys. Crazy.

question:  we don't have fender laws in NC so my full width axles on the YJ are a non-issue.
am I going to have an issue there?

don't have a problem in Colorado either, and I think I'm fully safe in saying that won't be a problem in Moab.  Ken, your thoughts?

Technically we do have a fender law in UT. Vehicles from out of state still are subject to the law even if they are not in their home state.

That being said, I have seen a LOT of  vehicles that do not meet the UT standard being driven around town and on the highway.
The general rule of thumb is if you don't cause trouble or do quite a bit to bring attention to yourself, they let you be. The local mounties understand the issue and are pretty cool about it.  Living here, I couldn't get away with it (though some do) but  they appreciate the revenue from the people that come here to play.  I haven't seen anyone pulled over for full width issues in a couple of years.  That said, the law is on the books.

hmmmm....Nacho's gonna have about 8 inches of 'tire' outboard of the fender wells (the other 9 inches should be inboard), and some of that will be covered by flares...if I get them on by then.  Guess I'll just keep things as low key as possible....

Sam, 8" out on each side? 16" wider than a normal fullsize might present an issue on a couple of the passes between boulders I've seen on videos.  Whatcha think?

...I'm not worried about Moab, even 'squeeze rocks' on 7-Mile.  Last time we were there we took lots of side clearance pics of Oxx, and judging by those I think Nacho will fit.....and just in case he doesn't there's a bypass about 50 yards away.  The rest of the trails I've been on have plenty of 'room'.  Some of the Colorado trails tho - those might require a bit narrower vehicle...and that's why I have Oxx  ;)

I really won't know how wide Nacho is going to be, but I ordered my 14" wheels with an 8 inch backspace, so more of the tire will be under the truck than less.  Tires are 17" wide...so maybe an 8" out/9" in split - maybe 7"/10".  Hell dude I dunno {noclue}...but I'm looking forward to finding out  8)

I'm hoping Nacho will surprise me by how well he performs and not how poorly, especially being bottom-heavy - should be a very 'stable' rig.

I'm sure your rig will do fine.  It might actually do great on some of the ledges, walls and drops given the crazy wheelbase and tire size.

    I think the thing that will take some getting used to is how high you'll be sitting.   {noclue}

    Sweet. I love that area.

How did your buddy do here:

Or did you go that way?
It doesn't look that tight in the picture, but the rock wall to the rear made it a bit of a challenge in a short wheelbased RC.

Both times we backed through S.O.B. hill. There was know way we were going to make that corner with a crewcab shortbed. That was an awesome trail to do. On the way back it was pouring rain and dark over elephant hill though...that got a little interesting. The lookout to the rivers is worth it though.

This is a trip report that a couple of us did a few years ago:
    https://ramchargercentral.com/trips-trail-reports/beef-basin-and-canyonlands-national-park-utah/

However, we didn't go in from the Needles side, we went via Beef Basin, and exited to the south via the Abajo mtns and Elk Ridge. Love that area.

I never rolled Judge, just banged it up a lot.

But you're right - sometimes it's the "mild" appearing stuff that can throw a stick in your spokes.  Especially when someone is inexperienced and either getting poor spotting or not listening/reacting properly to good spotting.

I must be thinking of someone else. I remember someone was on their dad's property and flopped on his side on a muddy hill.

Yeah there are a few spots like that. You can tell those though as you approach. Flops happen a lot but moving slow usually aren't that bad. Frequent is the back flip almost always caused by too much throttle for the situation. Body shop next door has a blingy H3 outside that looks like he did that this weekend.:p

Ever see the tail end of the movie Cars??? Remember the Hummers Sarge was taking out to the desert? Tip-toeing off the pavement? OK, it wasn't that bad, but I've seen way to  many of those here.  There is a limit on how much chrome a single vehicle should have. Makes me think of a 55 Studebaker.... or for that matter '55 most any US made car.   :P

So Monday we ran 7 Mile Rim during which time we got a little rain in the AM and a bunch right at the end. Beautiful day!
Tuesday due to the rain we skipped Steelbender and ran Metal Masher instead. Rainy at the rally point, quit as we started the trail, poured for what 10 minutes while we were at the top of the rim. Perfect day, nice and cool and Metal Masher without all the dust!!
Three rigs walked up Rock Chucker.
Thanks again Sam for taking point and making all this happen! We're having a great time!

Here's a recap of the event:

    Monday.  We all did 7-Mile, and the only carnage was Brian's RC when he showed us the easy way to remove rear lift blocks  ;D .  The gang jumped in and got his rear leafs re-mated to his rear axle, and he pressed on the rest of the week just like that {cool}.  Later Neil showed us all that a tall and wide full-size rig with 52" tires can indeed get through squeeze rocks {cool}

Tuesday was Metal Masher - great trail.  On the way up Homer suffered a broken u-bolt on his front diff u-joint.  It was real strange how it broke, but Mark (one of the Canadian bro's) had a spare u-bolt, and Eric had a new 1350 u-joint.  We got Homer's rig back together and pressed on.  Then Josh suffered two broken engine mounts.  They strapped it down tight with ratchet straps, which held the whole day.  No other problems.

Wednesday was a split group - some of us did Poison Spider and the hard core gang went up into BFE.  Before we left, Homer had to address his rear diff u-joint - one strap had bent bad the day before and the u-joint was loose.  I called my driveline service folks and got all the part numbers, and we went to CarQuest for the parts, which they had all of it in stock.  We got back, serviced his straps, and good to go.  Did the first half of Poison Spider, but then Kim noticed his RC was suffering from a cracked frame at the steering box, and getting worse.  Joel (inzane) jumped in and strapped his steering box as tight as he could manage to the frame, and Kim made it out in good order.  I'll let Josh and the others describe their side of the story :)

Thursday was another split group - some did Steel Bender and the others went out to Potato Salad Hill I think it was.  We got a couple hours into Steel Bender when Homer's rig suffered some pretty knarly damage.  Seems he was getting some pretty bad axle wrap, and on one steep climb the rear yoke and driveshaft bound up, which blew both rear straps and the driveshaft end yoke flew off.  At the same time it seems the left front axle stub shaft broke.  We tried to get him off in 1-wheel drive with the ARB on, when the right front stub also then broke.  So that turned into a full-on recovery effort, and we used Oxx as a tug boat and with a tow strap I towed Levi back out and off the trail, all the way  back to the KOA, where Levi then winched himself onto his trailer.  It was 5 pm by the time we were all done, so we broke out the food and brews and celebrated a successful recovery effort :) .

Friday we all did Hells Revenge.  About the only things I recall happening were some engine mount issues with I think Mark's Jeep, and some fresh "Escalator" paint scratches on the top edges on the roll cage of Eric's Jeep.

Then...the bonfire.  Ken wanted to have a 'real' bonfire, so he secured the proper 'permissions' from the local PD and FD, and with 30-foot flames and fifteen 911 calls later we had ourselves a real proper Moabion 'grand finale'.  It was a great way to cap off a great event!!

Thanks to everyone for coming out and enjoying the week!  ....now to organize and post up the umpteen jillion photos and gig's of videos.... ;D

Small correction - Wednesday we did Gold Bar Rim & Golden Spike.  Thursday we went to potato salad hill but didn't fool with unloading...  We the proceeded to area BFE and ran Britney Spears, Helldorado, and watched Neil clamor up into Black Flag :)
