Ram Jam 14 and Bureau of Land Management - please read
« on: August 7, 2014, 02:11:48 pm »
It's all good folks - no worries  ;) .  Our event is, naturally, on the Moab BLM 'radar', and I (personally), as the 'official'(?) event manager, have just signed a Letter of Agreement with the BLM Moab Field Office, within which I agree...on behalf of everyone coming to RamJam 2014...that 'we' will adhear to and follow all of the rules and regulations that are already in place.  The below LOA spells it all out, and this way everyone knows the ground rules for participation in any activity on the trails within the area of Moab, Utah.

I would appreciate everyone reading and heeding the LOA verbiage below.

***************************************************************

LETTER OF AGREEMENT
Between
Moab Field Office, Bureau of Land Management
And
Sam Ayars, (my address)

The Bureau of Land Management is responsible for the balanced management of your public lands and resources and their various values so that they are considered in a combination that will best serve the needs of the American people.   Management is based upon the principles of multiple use and sustained yield, a combination of uses that takes into account the long-term needs of future generations for renewable and non-renewable resources.

Special Recreation Permits are required for certain recreational activities on public lands.  Based on our evaluation, such a permit does not appear to be necessary to conduct your planned activity during the 2014 year. If you wish to host a similar type of event in future years please contact the Moab Field Office a minimum of two months in advance of the desired event date.

Type of activity: Group 4WD trail rides.

Locations: Designated Jeep Safari routes within the Moab Field Office

Date and Time: September 8, 2014 to September 12, 2014

Activity contact person: Sam Ayars (719-494-6688)

BLM contact person: Jennifer Jones      Phone: (435) 259-2136

IT IS HEREBY AGREED that certain actions are necessary to have a safe and successful outing with minimum impact to the environment:

1. Sanitation will be addressed and accomplished by utilizing the existing restroom facilities located at trailheads. In addition the group will carry a portable toilet system or wagbags for use out on the trails.

2.  Help us clean up public lands by packing out ALL trash generated by your activity.  Picking up trash left by less thoughtful people helps to maintain the scenic beauty of your public lands.

3.  No informational or directional signs will be placed on public lands during the event.

4.  There are certain natural phenomenon that could be encountered that present risks which the participants assume.  All participants must be advised of conditions that may be encountered.

5.  Nothing in this agreement shall be construed to imply permission to build any structure or conduct any activity not specifically named.

6.  Disorderly or otherwise objectionable conduct such as harassment of wildlife or other recreation site users will not be tolerated and could be the basis for denial of similar agreements in the future.

7.  Precautions must be made to protect natural resource values, cultural or historic objects, aesthetic values, and any improvements on public lands.

8.  If there is any question concerning regulation on public lands, please contact our office immediately.

We welcome you to the public lands and hope you enjoy your visit.

***************************************************************

As well, I will have liability waivers for everyone to fill out when we all meet up for each trail.  These cover me, all of you, Ramchargercentral.com, and Vertical Scope, against any and all responsibility and liability of the actions of any of the RamJam 2014 attendees, whether they be RCC members or guests.  I'll hand those out and once filled out they will cover us for the entire event {cool}.

So Sam, so does this mean you have a groover?
Not that I think they can enforce the requirement since we are below the permit required size, but on our Jeep Safari permitted activities they can and do spot checks to verify proper paperwork and possession of the groover. (ammo can with waste bag in it) The modern versions are more comfy but the name still sticks out here where the river companies were required to have a waterproof way of transporting solid waste off the river.

Gee Sam, you sound like you might be focused on something else right now. ;)

They sell the replacement bags pretty cheap for those things nowadays lots of places, Cabelas or any other outdoor place. Don't know if wally world has em. Probably be a good idea for someone to pick up a bag to carry with us to show the tree fuzz and we can use a can or something if need be.  Truthfully, I've never been on a trail that actually needed the thing.
