Location run off vote
« on: February 4, 2013, 04:25:38 am »
I see no choice but to have a runoff since no location got a majority at the end of voting.

One week. One vote. NO changing of vote.

There is no use to talk about dates until we have a location.

Hidden Falls does not have a majority.  They only have 47.8%.  I realize that is clearly the most votes but it does not constitute a majority.

I feel a little behind the 8 ball here and I don't want it coming back that the Texas dudes took it when there was not a real majority.  I didn't like it when presidential elections go that way went that way and I want it clearly decided where we have the next RamJam.

If someone wants to rule that Hidden Falls is it, then cut me out of the planning.  I will be happy to bow out.

Ok, I did not realize we were going for a majority vote, over the most votes.

Presidential elections were never set for a "Majority" vote. whether you go by the popular vote, or the electoral vote. Either way you count, they go by the one with the most votes.

But you set it up, and I'll stand behind your decision.

Although I started the mess with the run off vote, there is no reason not to be thinking about a date.  I don't think we should be voting on a date yet because the schedule of the location needs to be considered in the date equation.

    My thoughts:

Last year we had it on June 1st.  Schools in our area were out before that date and we thought that was a good date, being the first week of our kids' summer vacation.  However, some folk were unable to attend because their children were still in school.  So I think the first week of June should not be considered.

I think that all things considered, the weekend following July 4th is out because of the many family and friend fellowship activities of the holiday.  I don't like the weekend before the 4th either because I cannot attend at that time.  I have a grand-daughter running barrels in the American Paint Horse Show in Fort Worth.  (Don't let my schedule change your minds.)  ;D

The first year I attended, it was on Labor Day weekend as I remember.  I think that date is a little too late because some kids are back in school before the holiday and I think families with kids should get a chance to go.

If it ends up being at Hidden Falls, some people will not come in later July and the first three weeks of August or so because of the heat.  I live and work in this heat so it really doesn't bother me to wheel in the heat but not very many people feel like I do on this subject.

I thought some presidential elections were decided by the majority of times a single vote could be counted.

Really, though, in a previous life I was a band director.  I had major flack over a drum major selection based on the most votes over the majority of the votes.  It ended up in such a mess that I eventually went back to construction and kissed the music industry good by.

I just bought another RC so I'm not ready to give up here.

I'd be curious to see if turnout would be better on Labor Day weekend.   Last year, June was warm but not unbearable.  If it's in July or August we could always call it SWEAT-FEST 2013.   ;D

In either case, I plan to go - hot or not.  Had a blast last time and really want to see everyone again and hopefully meet some new folks this year.

Although the voting is not over yet, I think it is safe to assume that Hidden Falls will be the final choice.  I sent an e-mail to Jeff at Hidden Falls and asked him what was on the books for the summer.  I mentioned that some of us don't like the heat and some do like Labor Day.  Here is his answer:

Yalls group is pretty small so anytime would work however if you want to avoid our big weekends Ive listed the events I know of so far.

    Spring Break March 7-17
Wheelers For The Wounded May 3-5
Sept. 1 weekend 4 Wheel Parts Run

June is a good time, not to hot yet and not real busy at the park, well normally.

Labor Day weekend has worked before for Ram Jam since generally a three day weekend. I generally have vacation days that I can use when I need too so whatever y'all come up with should work for me. Thanks Ron for setting all this up and leading the way!!
