Denver Ralley - RamJam 2014
« on: April 12, 2014, 07:57:07 am »
For the west-bounders coming through Denver, us locals will have a ralley point on the west end of Denver on Sunday morning, just off I-70 at exit 259

We'll park in the last parking area on the west end, across from the Sunmart gas station...right here - http://goo.gl/maps/0ee9h

For the final leg to Moab up and over the Rockies, for those that want, we'll meet you right there between 9:30-10:30 am, and plan to depart at/around 10:30

The ensuing 50 miles or so of the Rocky Mountains WILL test your engine/transmission cooling systems...and...your brakes.  Doesn't matter how fast we go uphill...but the downhill...that can get all kinds of "bad" in a hurry.

For those that are coming through that way, we hope to link up with ya, and make us a true convoy...all the way to Moab  8)

If you have problems and need to contact me, my cell is  (719) 494-6688 , and we'll be on CB channel 3.

    Denver to Moab is about 350 miles, or about 6 hours, driving around 60-65 mph.  We'll leave Colorado Springs between 7:30-8:00 am, and make our way up to the ralley point.  Ben (KillerBee) has offered to haul Nacho behind his 05 Cummins.  Homer and his brother will join us at around 10 am, hauling Levi on a flatbed behind Homer's GMC, and we'll plan to haul azz near 10:30.

    Sounds like a plan, we are going to attempt hitching up/w you guys at this rally point...   If all works out Eric and I will each be driving 3-4 hrs. to our rally point in Charleston WV Friday morning.  Then sometime that afternoon after shuffling Tomahawk and gear, heading West, getting a jump on the 1700+ remaining miles to Moab.   ;D

    FYI. two truck stops have now opened up at the west end of Grand Junction (Loves, and a Pilot), at exit 26. They have been running the lowest, or equal to the lowest gas prices in town. (Was $3.40 today) . Don't know how that compares to MOAB, but might make a good refuel point.

    Great info George - Grand Junction is always a good rest stop - let's plan to make a pit stop there.  Not sure when exactly, but we'll plan to ralley at one of those truck stops between 3:30 and 4:30 pm.  George, as far as maybe easiest to get into/out of, which do you recommend?  Don't matter to me so go ahead and pick the one you like, and we'll make that our ralley point {cool}

    Accessibility, and service wise wise, I think they are both about the same. I fueled up at the pilot last week, and my credit card was denied. I just thought it was a system issue, and paid cash. Then I used my card later that day in Utah when I picked up my new to me milling machine. Then on the way home, my card was again denied at the pilot. I called my bank, and they said pilot is on the list of places that have had lots of fraudulent charges, but if I wanted, they would tirn my card on for pilots.  My feeling is screw pilot, if they have a system that allows such issues, then they do not need my business, and went over to Loves. All I did was top off the tank, so I can not say much for the other services.

    Just replaced my wife's debit card because some Mexicans were trying to use her number to buy gas south of the border - I agree, screw pilot!

    Is this now a Conoco station?  Or was it a conoco in the google images and is now a Sunmart?

    actually Josh I'm not sure.  IIRC last time I was up there it was a Conoco, but the parking lot (across from that pic) there is gigantic.  We'll be parked directly across from that gas stop.
