Scopes
« on: April 12, 2013, 08:55:12 am »
Looking for a new scope for my bolt action .308. Right now I'm running a simmons pro 50 on it. I like the 50mm lens and the heavy crosshairs.(esier to see and they don't "fade". But, I want to put that scope on my 8mm and would like to upgrade on the .308, any suggestions?(best bang for the buck type deal. the more I drop on a scope the less I have for the RC. :'()

Leupold VX-1 or Redfield Revolution will run you around $200 or so.  Nikon has some decent stuff in that price range as well.
I would recommend going to a Cabela's or somewhere similar and check them out yourself.  So long as you like the glass and the targeting system, you should be good to go.  Most scopes in this price range are not going to be the best at dusk...but oh well.

Once you figure out what you like, look online for better deals ;D

Actually my simmons was only about ohhhhh, $125 I want to say.(that was back in 97 or so) and I've been real happy with that in low light situations.

I figured leupold, didn't think about redfield though. Next week I'm heading up to a major outdoors store in Clare, I'll check them out there. Pretty pumped about getting a new barrel on my 8mm. Can't wait to see how it shoots....

For me, it has been Leupold, or nothing. But the last scope I bought was 1995, so my info could be a bit outdated.

Leupold bought out Redfield.  The revolution rifle scopes are basically the VX-1 series...

I was cruising around earlier on cabela's and found the burris eliminator laser range finding/bdc scope. If I had the cash I'd score one of those but man, base model is $800. Cool, but not that cool.
