We'll I finally pulled the trigger and "officially" started working on my '70 Charger.
I started gutting the car to determine what needs to be done as far as replacing bad metal. And for blasting.
I found the most complicated units of the car... the rear quarter window regulators...
Unbelievably complicated monsters! An engineering marvel!
But after spending time with them and getting to know them on a personal level... I think I may have them kinda figured out. I got a rebuild kit for them.
And after sandblasting, rebuilding and painting them they didn't scare me that much anymore.
It's amazing how simple the front side windows are compared to those rear ones.
I'm planning on making these all electric control. The front windows have kits available for them... not the rear 1/4er's. So I'll have to get some parts and fab up something to make the 1/4er's work electric. I found a company that can help with those.
Kinda odd this is the first thing I've restored, but the ball is rolling quickly and I ADDed on them.
I need to plan way ahead to try to keep this project from stalling. I actually ordered my chassis the other day. It's from these guys... https://www.schwartzperformance.com/chassis/1968-1970-b-body-coronet-road-runner-charger-chassis/
I've been fascinated with this guys stuff for quite a few years now. They ain't cheap, but they have everything in one package. Which in the long run makes for better efficiency on my end. Quality stuff there. And they can really perform. They're almost 4 months out for delivery.
I had to make a decision on the wheels and tires right away too because of the brake size. Just finding what I was looking for was a challenge. I'm not purchasing them yet though.
So next week I'm towing it up to my sons house to get blasted. I'll need to figure out what I need for the metal replacement quickly. A fuel cell to determine sizing/ mounts for the trunk. Already making decisions for the engine to figure out the mounts on the chassis. Also the door catches, Daytona kit, etc.
I'll post progress pictures soon of what I did today.
