Made a shifter from hickory axe handle.
An alternative to a Pistol Grip shifter!

I still need to figure out what the carburetor needs for the Cruise Control cable.  I know I need a different throttle cable clamp.  I'm just not sure how it's supposed to attach to the carb.
Okay. Sorry it took a day longer than I said but here it is...

It is set up on a pivot. So when you over ride it, it just swings out of the way.
I welded it on from the stock linkage years ago from my stock Thermoquad.

No 4 low, without a ton of noise in all ranges, is likely a linkage adjustment. Or not shifting the lever to the side to get out of neutral, and into 4 low.

well it use to work till it went bang and stopped working ;D. i definitely was not expecting to break under such lite load. didn't even get to dig any ruts in the gravel that day. i am pretty sure i hear the transfer case when in 4 hi but i figured that was pretty normal since i don't use it much. i was expecting to have the fluid look bad because of it.

often when 2 meshing gears slip apart under a load there WILL be a BANG , sometimes it causes no damage , adjust the linkage to obtain FULL engagement . lube it all , they rust up and bind .... usually when they are little used ...

Low range is from a set of planetary gears. So they are always in contact, any major breakage would affect all the ranges. Could be a shift fork issue, or other minor parts.

you guys may be right. maybe i didn't have 4x4 fully engaged that day. i just went and and played with things and 4 low is working ;D. the linkage on this thing moves pretty good. heck when i first got this thing even the park brake worked which was a huge surprise to me.

Changed the earl after a couple hunnerd with seafoam in crankcase as experiment to quiet what I think is a lifter.  Changed from 5W-30 to 10W-30 and is definitely quieter, either due to seafoam or viscosity change.  Engine has only about 25K on the rebuild but I suspect it sat for quite a while.  I like this truck more every day.

I tried some 40 weight oils, engine did not like them. Tried a bunch of stuff for the lifter. Lubri-moly lifter cleaner, marvel, trans fluid. Etc.           And in the end switched to mobil super 10w-30 high milage and a can of restore. The restore worked for the start up lifter noise😁

Rotated tires, adjusted up rear drums, readjusted because one was running hot, made a simple little knob for heater slider using fuel lime and a plastic Dorman trim pin.

pulled the gear out of the driver side hub. hoping that will give what is left of the universal joint a break till i get around to replacing it. one of these days i got to get around to installing locking hubs so it will take stress of the silly parts like this. i know it is a huge pain to pull the caps off to get at the gear.

I have to figure out why the CTD won't start.  :'(

Made a town run and it ran fine (I haven't had any problems with it since the head gasket). Parked it and came out 2 days later to make a town run and she cranks but won't fire.  :'(

fuel , or compression . open bleeder on line , hand pump the "lift" / or "transfer" pump, little lever on side of it , BUT if its stopped on the bump/ high side ,  of the cam there will be NO action of the pump , crank a tiny bit to get pump arm OFF the bump ... then it will have stroke .

I'm headed out now to check things out. First is the electric fuel solenoid. See if there is power to it, then to pull it and replace it. I have a new one. That is what happened to my 90 the solenoid went bad and stayed in the closed position.

yes older ones had a thumb screw , crank it and the motor would NOT shut off . oddly remove wire then test wire for power on/off . if you hear the solenoid click its likely working .. check for fuel "up" .

changed the air filter and cleaned 1 bad battery connection on the ramcharger yesterday. helped finish installing a webasto heater in a w250. i got to admit it is pretty cool. really seems like it is almost a block heater on steroids lol. it seemed like it was pumping some pretty hot coolant through the system in no time

installed a new drag link and universal join on the 89. steering is so much better now. still not very happy about the universal joint. sitting on the fence about ordering another one. had to grind the edges of the caps a tiny bit to get the axle through the hub hole. was not happy about having to do that. should have just spent the $10 more and ordered the same acdelco one i did for the other side. who new there would be suck a stupid difference. next up on the list is fixing the exhaust leak that developed on tuesday and new wiper blades.

I too have seen the hub hole V/S u-joint deal , rust in hub hole , slight tap and it went in . At first I questioned the u-joint install , but the caps were a tad different ...

it was not the hole. i took my rotary file to it hoping it might be simple as rust. it is mainly the top of the new caps are square and the old ones were bevel. was also considering taking the grinder to the brake caliper bracket and removing some material so i could get the axle out without removing the bracket in the future but i was not sure if that was a good idea or not. i figure they must have left the material there for 1 reason or another.

They also added some extra material from the 70's adapter, so I do not think I would grind any off.

Got an offer for $8k on my truck.  But I'd have to replace it with something.  Most other trucks will continue to depreciate.   I think I'll pass, though I have the guys number.

yes older ones had a thumb screw , crank it and the motor would NOT shut off . oddly remove wire then test wire for power on/off . if you hear the solenoid click its likely working .. check for fuel "up" .

Well I took 2 wires loose at the IP and tested them for voltage, they all checked out fine. I put everything back together and it fired right up!  :o I did put a newer battery in it too. ( 6 months ago I got 4 one year old Deka batteries out of a stationary Detroit generator that was on a job I ran and serviced and they were going to use them as cores for new ones, with nothing wrong with them) So I got $600 worth of batteries for nothing more than 4 cores I had laying around.  ;D

I tore the steering box out of my business partner's 97 2500 5.9 truck. He had bought a used redhead steering box for it and the kid he got it from didn't know squat about it. The return line flair-nut and piping are a bigger size thread on the redhead than factory. So off to the Hydraulics shop to have one made.  ::)

Man that truck is rusty! (plow truck that sat all year till the snow.) :o We were going to do ball joints, bearing hubs, all the steering and axle connection bars and joints (trac bar, steering bar, and the tie-rod bar), brakes and rotors. BUT The bolts on the hubs rounded off, and the ball joints are rusted fast.

His cousin has a shop with a lift and a ball-joint press so he will be doing that!

Today I will replace my wiper blades. Then I will remove the wiper motor and troubleshoot the park switch. Am I weird because I would rather repair my original wiper motor than install a Chinese one?

I rewired a 1987 , to accept a 1992 wiper motor , and haven't had a problem with it since , its a better design . It took 2 fsm's wiring diagrams , but the '92's plug is still in use , so if it ever fails its just a 1992 dodge assembly , plug/play .

Finally swapping out my W200s front axle for one with disc brakes. Haven't been able to drive it for months. I'm loosing locking hubs, but with a part time 203, not a big deal.

Wiper blades replaced. Then I took off the cowl, I had to remove the wiper arm assemblies, duh me. I wanted easy access to the nut that holds the bell crank for the linkage to the wiper motor.

Thats when i noticed the build up of pine needles, dirt and gunk. Shop vac'ed all that crap out. Thank goodness It was all dry and the paint inside the cowl was not rotted away. i will remember to flush that area out periodically. Prevent dust build up here in AZ. Removed the wiper motor so I can start bench testing it and possibly repairing the park function.

    Working on hydroboost.

This is an '80s Chevy booster. Built a bracket to space it off the firewall a bit. A '95 Dodge master is a direct swap for the chevy iron one.
