So being in the middle of this all, whats going on with every one?Here the gas is 68 cents, Canadian tire and hardware stores are closed as well as everything else of course.I do online groceries now and stay in my yard,  Fortunately I have a few acres so I don't get too bored.  I was planning on fishing in the next couple of weeks but they closed all the boat ramps and marinas so I can't even launch.Now that sucks.My wife is out of work so we are both home.  Don't drive much because there is no where to go.So strange times we live in.  Good thing the beer store is still open {yes}

not much here either. only driving i really do is driving by the grocery store waiting for the lines to shrink or disappear. i really wish i had a garage to work on projects to keep busy since the weather is still a bit all over. the cheap gas has been nice. usually feels funny filling up since you get a lot of gas for a lot less money. also hoping to hear from the people my dad bought the dart from soon. hoping it will be out of storage soon but i know they got to get the other cars out of the way first to get to it. the car is actually only about 2 blocks from Kyles place.

Ya trying to shop for groceries has become a major ordeal with line ups outside of stores.  It reminds me of pictures my parents have of the food lines during the depression.Hopefully it won't get that bad.

ya the lines are just ridiculous. the one at freshco is about the worst of them all the time. i have driven by that place at 7pm and there was still a long line up and the 1 time where there was no line they were out of quite a few things. no frills has also been a bit annoying since they close at 6pm instead of 8 like all the others. the limits are also a bit frustrating to deal with especially if they want you to stay home. i liked freshco's original limits. 2 paper or meat products and 4 of everything else. at least it was a bit more reasonable. 2 of each thing is just ridiculous. even 2 cans of spaghetti sause don't go that far.

Well starting to get a little more normal.  Canadian tire open, marinas (yay fishing) and at least the boat ramps are open now.Still buying groceries online though and will until they start charging for it again.Otherwise its gardening and fishing and grass cutting. :)

while some people are glad they are re-opening things i am not one of them. i feel like it is too soon to be re-opening everything. i know the number of new cases daily is slowly going down but the number of active cases is still going up both here and in Quebec. most other provinces are usually seeing more recoveries/deaths daily than they are new cases which is good to see. i just wish we could see the same here before we continue to try and return to living life normally. i know the economy is taking a huge beating but it is either that or see a bunch of people exposed to this virus.

I think Ontario is taking it reasonably slowly.  I still won't go into retail stores like Canadian tire or wal mart but I did go to the beer store and they were very strict on what was going on.  I attemted to go to TSC but they had people waiting in line so there would not be too many people in there and I just didn't feel like standing there.I find the stores I see are doing their best and find its the people that you come across that don't always adhere to the distancing. We are certainly washing our hands more religiously being in that group of high risk. And I stay away from people as a rule anyhow.  Even before this pandemic.

but we are not taking it slow enough for how stupid people are these days ;D. while stores are pretty good at limiting the amount of people let in they are starting to re-open parks and places where no one is monitoring how many people are there or enforcing social distancing. i know this video was from the other day. i know mono cliffs is a big park but there is no way this many people are social distancing properly. there is flat out just way too many people for it to be safe.

Yeah i've seen that video and it is a lot of stupid people.Thing is you can't punish the rest of the people based on the stupidity of some. This area has shown to be quite docile and no groups of people can be seen anywhere.  Even the parks only have 3 or 4 cars in them.Best thing to do is protect yourself and your family and stay away from everyone else for now, as much as you can.

i know where you live it may be a bit more relaxed but lots of stupid people here especially with some big cities south of me. the worst part is i know there has been quite a few cases locally since the seniors home about 20 minutes north of me probably saw at least a 90% infection rate between residents and staff. i have definitely been trying to do social distancing as much as possible. been pretty lucky with some stores returning to normal hours and people no longer panic buying i have been able to return to doing my grocery shopping in the evening when stores are almost empty.

as much as i was hoping this virus would almost be gone by now looks like we might be in for that 2nd wave some people were talking about. i am hoping in another week or so from now we just see a drop from them making mask mandatory in the cities but i have a feeling it won't. it definitely feels like things moving too fast may end up leading us back to where we started. almost every single province is having more and more new cases daily. if we have to close everything again it is going to hurt the economy way worse than if had just kept things closed a bit longer. i guess at least our numbers are still way better than the insane ones coming out of the southern states which are just scary.

#13 ·
Ya I think a lot of people think it is over and back to normal. And then there are those that don't want to do the mask thing and still want to socialize.I am still very cautious and stay away from people basically I even get the groceries online now.I can't remember the last time I went to a store browsing. But the wife and I aren't sick, although our mothers are both not allowed visitors and talking on the phone isn't the same. That kinda sucks but we aren't willing to take the chance of possible infection either. We shall see and as they say, only time will tell.I am hoping it settles back down.

We did our normal shopping today. Saw a ton more out of state plates, then I ever saw. Most from the east coast. I hope they are not bringing their bad bugs with them.

#15 ·
ya that why i think we have been taking things too quickly. people acting like things are going back to normal and numbers are now back on the way up. i really hope we don't end up like the southern states especially with how low we did have the numbers. i am not a huge fan of masks and slightly picky about some stuff when shopping so i have been avoiding going to the stores unless absolutely needed. only been in a store about 3 times since the mandatory mask thing came into effect june 12. i am glad most places seem to have the a/c cranked or a mask would just be killer.

depends what states they are from. as long as they are not from the south or west coast they may not be too bad. depends what the numbers are like where they are. i know here the region just south of where i am has 330 known active cases where the region i am in has 22 as of today. the scary part is there is still quite a few people who still commute to jobs in the city south of us.

We are not bad here in the Bancroft area we have had no cases other than one back in March when someone came in from vacation.
Real estate has gone crazy on lake front 30% over asking on almost everything. But we are starting to see alot more city people who do own cottages coming but it is pretty hard to stop  them when they pay taxes and they do  generate a large cash flow for the merchants who depend on them, there is not much industry here

#17 ·
that pretty crazy to be seeing properties sell for more than asking price especially during a pandemic. i am just waiting for the market to crash. there is no way houses can keep selling for way more than they are worth. i know the house beside us has sold a few times over the last 5 or so years and the most current owners paid about $100k more than the people who bought it about 3-4 years before that. no way the houses is worth that much more over a short time and all these people paying more than the house is worth will be screwed if they lost their job during this pandemic. even the cerb money wouldn't pay the mortgage most people have on their houses these days.

#18 ·
Right now you have tons of people with money wanting to get away from the big cities. Wait another 6 months, and it will get worse, as people realize the stupidity of slashing police budgets, dropping charges on rioters, and other leftist bs that is going down. These big cities will have no choice but to raise taxes, insurance rates will go crazy, and urban property prices will tank.

#19 ·
Ya you gotta figure alot of people got to work from home and they are now able to continue that.  No more commuting and you can have a job in Toronto and live 3 or 4 hours away. The real estate is crazy here also.

#20 ·
Real estate has been high for awhile now, my daughter and her husband bought a lot in the small
urban area of Madoc and  they paid 375k for it but then again it was waterfront, they will have way
more than a million when finished invested.
Now they are waiting for MPAC assesment.

hard to say if that is a good deal or not. houses around here usually start out at about $400k and those are usually the crappier area's to live. you almost need to spend about $500k+ if you want a house in a bit better neighborhood. house next door sold for $465K last year.

but eventually they will likely want people to start returning to the office and then what? i know i was not a huge fan of commuting even when it was just a 30 minute commute. i would never commute 2+hours a day. i also know some people have told me they would only be able to work from home if they had a good reliable high speed internet connection which is not always available. high speed internet is generally only available in town. i know that is one of the biggest issue for some out in the country here. LTE is the only available option for some and with how much bandwidth you need it is $100+ monthly. the LTE might be ok for personal use but i am almost certain i have seen some people with $200+ internet bill from working at home. i guess you save the money commuting but spend the same money else ware.

And its back.Probably worse than the start of it in March.I feel lucky to be retired and have the property, I can just occupy myself at home and order groceries on line and pick them up.Everything else can wait. How is everyone else making out?

fine ,thanks , I too am retired , with heart problems , and I don't wear a mask , ( can't seem to breathe with one )so she who is still working , goes into the store ( they'd throw me out ) . No one at the "repair garages " ( tire shop and an inspection shop )  I frequent wears one either ... 20 % increase in amount paid is a pretty good incentive for every death to be " from" covid even in a car crash .

#24 ·
ya it looks that way. definitely seems like the government screwed up pretty big rushing to re-open things and now look at those numbers. not much you can do now tho. i doubt the next lock down will be as effective as they think it will. i was at a grocery store during normal hours on Saturday and it was just like a zoo inside. way too many people and not enough space to be social distancing properly. i know lock down rules says stores can run at 50% capacity which still seems a tad bit high for most stores.

Glad you are doing well.We don't have the numbers of covid as skewed as the States I don't think. Not that I think they are spot on either. We have mask rules but like my wife works at a marina and they aren't required to wear masks but the customers are. Everyone still has to stay 6 ft apart is all.

we here are being prepped to accept whatever "government " rules are dictated to us . Being taught to "blow in" our co workers / neighbors who do not "comply" , same as everyone in the former USSR did .... health " scare" is an easy method that "of course demands" compliance .....

add increased "random" gun violence , and we are prepping to "remove " firearms from the citizens ( see nys sues NRA)

conspiracy ? no , control . more folks need to open their eyes , IF they want their kids to enjoy what they had , socialism does not work , in any form for the mass population , only for the "leaders" .

If I did get ill , and that added to my condition , killed me I see that as the same as a 90 year old in a rest home passing away .... "with" covid , that is no suprize , that's what rest homes are "for" ya go there to DIE ..... meanwhile many other folks have covid , but are "A" symptomatic ? no symptoms ? so are they sick ? no ....... duh.
