Enlarge fender openings
« on: November 12, 2020, 02:45:41 am »
When it comes to making bigger tires fit you can use a sawzall,a grinder, or hammer to make stuff fit. Ive used all three techniques before but one thing I've always been curious is how to enlarge the wheel opening while keeping the factory lip. Ive seen a few fenders where it looked "stock" other than it had no problems swallowing 35"+ tires. Is there a guide for us sheetmetal novices to follow, preferably with pretty pictars?

I've welded a lip back on before and it worked, but the welding was tedious.  It's very easy to warp the panel welding on the edge like that so you have to be careful with the heat.  To bend a lip in the panel would take a lot of working the metal to stretch it in the right places and shrink it in others so that you get a nice corner and don't warp the panel.  Not worth the time, in my opinion.  In the end, I just cut my Ramcharger's fenders and left the cut edge.  It's not a show truck.

There's been a few guys that sectioned in a panel to stretch the opening.  I'll see if I can find an example
