This is another one I make my family often. They love it. After trying so many different versions of lasagna I just started doing my own thing. Seems like a lot of work but its like changing drum breaks... You do it once and then you can do it with your eyes closed....
What you'll need:
9 lasagna noodles
1 lb hot sausage
2lbs of hamburger (whatever kind)
Half a white onion or so chopped up (I wing it)
A couple chopped garlic gloves or the powder if you dont have cloves.
2 tbsp of oregano and basil.
Salt and Pepper
8 oz Tomato Sauce (I use hunts-meat)
1 tub of ricatta cheese ( the bigger one)
12 or so slices of mozzarella cheese (I just have the delli slice it)
1/2 a can or parmesan cheese
Cook the onion and garlic until a little brown. Add in the meat, oregano, basil. I shake in a bit of salt and pepper but no particular amount. Drain some of the fat but not all of it. Add in the tomato sauce. Stir it in good. While the meats cooking you can go ahead and boil the noodles. When the noodles are cooked, I lay them out and let them dry a little bit so they're easier to handle.
The layering:
Lay down 3 noodles
Spread 1/2 the ricatta cheese over them ( I noticed its easier to spread if you stir it up prior)
Cover with 6 slices of mozzarella (basically cover the whole thing)
Dump about 1/3 the meat over the cheese and spread it equally.
Repeat this.....
Put the last 3 noodles on top of the meat. Cover it with the remaining meat sauce and cover it w/ a ton of parmesan cheese. Sometimes I sprinkle shredded mozzarella if I have some.
Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes until top is golden brown and sides are bubbling.
