The scanner came with scanning software, probably a disc. If it was installed just look for it in your programs/start menu (left lower icon on your task bar). If not, you have to look for and install the software.

To post here you need a hosting website like imgur. I have a lifetime membership here on RCC and can post through that.

You only need 50 posts to be able to upload pics.

As Doc says, most multifunction printers need a program loaded on your computer. The at least with my Brother units, you just hit scan, then it will give you choices of scanning to a USB drive, or will show what computers are on line that I can scan to.

Hummm O.K. Iknow there was a cd or something that enabled this p/c to have that gizmo print stuff , so the printer is listed on this p/c somehow , I'll have to see if the printer says anything like that . thank you , so far , bear with me as I don't understand the language ( computer) much at all .

like doc says installed   um installed where ? this P/C ?  if the p/c sends "print" to it , it musta been installed ?

That's not so. Your computer can recognize the printer functions and send it instructions to print, but unless you use HP's software, the computer won't understand how to scan. I have a nice HP color laser multifunction. There's a disc somewhere. You may or may not have installed it when you got it.

You could try scanning something and if there is a "program" (driver) installed you might get a prompt on your computer screen asking where/what folder you would like to save it...maybe not but worth a shot in case it's set and ready to scan. No harm in putting the picture in there and press scan and see what happens.
If you determine you do not have the software installed..no need to tear the house apart looking for it...you can download the program...the same one that would have been on the disc when you bought the printer...from HP website...then go from there. Scan is nice to have not only for pictures but once you get the hang of using it storing paper documents in folders where you can pull them up/find them quickly, etc.
here's where you can download the driver from HP website:

I scan my favorite old photos then store them safely in a box, so I have physical and electronic versions - belt and suspenders ;)

Yea, I have a whole box of photos that are stuck together. And several albums that have faded over the years. Photo paper is not a good storage medium. One of these days I will sit down and scan them all in. Yea, you are right, probably never get there.

Yeah, I did scan all of my photos and important stuff as you never know what may happen and digital photos if you save them in two different places - like disk and online, you are pretty much ensured to never lose it. Like my friend from ##### lost a lot of important documents when he was moving to another house somehow and somewhere which he haven't found since then.

    Like my friend from ####

Is this a passive aggressive way to spam now or are you getting paid to put this in every post?
