pop upblockers help
« on: August 31, 2014, 07:12:50 am »
Ok so I bought a good used laptop for the family/me with wifi to take the place on my tower while it's being cleaned up. And so I can have access to the net in the garage. the boys can use it for homework,and Carla can use it when she goes on trips for her dad.

I down loaded firefox yesterday and I get 2-3 pages pop up behind the page I'm looking at with ads on them. Plus I get pop ups on my screen constantly.  {flame}

so did I allow one of those stupid things I wasn't supposed to while loading it or is this normal?

I looked through the PC help here and didn't find a whole lot on pop-ups and what people are using. the one site I went to to download one didn't have a user agreement so I got rid of it before installed it.

help...................    :-\

    If you are going to a website and things are popping up immediately in the background you either need to question the website you are visiting, or check the PC for spyware.

    When you bought the laptop did you format it and start from scratch?

    And as Sheriff said, install ABP.

    Here is the combo you need for Firefox.

    Go to add on's and search "adblock". When that result comes up look down the list about 2 or 3 items for a thing called "ABE".  Download it. It will install automatically.

    THEN  search "Ghostery".  Click and let that install.

    Ghostery will take you to their site to set up your preferences.  I check all but the bottom 2 on the list on each page.

    ABE is Adblock Edge. Adblock Edge is a fork of the Adblock Plus version 2.1.2 extension for blocking advertisements on the web.

    Ghostery is an ad blocking tool that stops almost all ad trackers like doubleclick and crap like that.

    With Adblock, ABE, and Ghostery, my browsing has gotten much faster because the ads do not load and it skips straight to the core of the site you are looking at.
