jpe vs jpg images.
« on: June 3, 2016, 09:19:53 am »
I had posted pics taken with my phone in the past. I would send the pics from my phone  to my email. From my email, I would move them to a folder on my desktop dedicated to car pics. As needed, I could attach them to posts here on the forum.

Recently, I tried to attach pics to a post and a message popped up saying "You cannot upload that type of file. The only allowed extensions are jpg, gif, pdf, mpg, png, wvx,WVX,WMV,avi."  The only thing I did differently was take pictures in "landscape". Would that make my pics "jpe?" All other pics I took were in "portrait" and they saved as "jpg".

Why for is this is?  When it comes to these 'puters, I have the dumb. I need assistance from all you Nerds. (The word Nerds spoken with much respect and reverence.)

Most likely you have installed some sort of program that deal with image files and when it asked to associate about of file types with that program, you just clicked by it like 99% of us do and it changed the file type.  A JPE file is the same type of file as a JPG or JPEG, but is just an odd file suffix that is rarely used and not recognized by most programs.  You should be able to Google out a program or website that can help you convert them over to a normal JPG file type.

When I was a kid, we used to make fun of nerds. Now they rule the world and get the hot chicks…..
I doubt that your phone has somehow changed formats from JPG to JPE, but sometimes things can get accidentally changed during download. As an example, JPG and JPEG are exactly identical formats, and all programs read these the same, however for reasons unknown, JPEG can become shortened to "JPE" which happens to be a different format, but in this case, it's purely coincidental. If you changed the extension to say "RXT" a format that doesn't exist, the message you get will still be the same. It just means the program doesn't understand the format given and won't open the picture. (like mistyping a website address) There are easy fixes. You can manually change the extension and type in "JPG" yourself, or change it when you "Save As" in your computer.
