iPad mini screen replacement issues, HELP
« on: November 17, 2014, 12:02:53 pm »
Howdy,

Over the weekend I replaced the cracked screen/digitizer on my iPad mini.  All went well (thank you YouTube) everything went back together fine. I didn't ruin the LCD or blow the backlight fuse during the procedure.

I turned it back on and it all looked nice, except for a very small area on one corner which looks like the back lighting is leaking through.  Then the fun began, the screen/digitizer just started firing off "touches" very quickly and usually around the four corners of the screen. Literally it would open an app and perform a few functions before I could slam the home button to close it.

So I was thinking it might be a bad digitizer or did I leave a bit of debris inside either under the LCD or between the LCD and screen/digitizer?

Either way I am ordering a new one as I am pretty sure I will crack the screen trying to remove it.  Those things are THIN!

Cheers

Well the second screen was even worse, it only worked on half of it, the side was just dead.

Turns out the ribbon cable from the digitizer to the main board is quite sensitive about how it gets routed/folded when the screen gets glued back down. So I am using the first replacement digitizer loose (not glues down) it works fine just a bit cumbersome.

Ebay/Amazon replacement screens seem to be hit and miss with no rhyme or reason. Truly a flip of the coin on what shows up. Even the seller reviews are no help. Just as many happy as pissed off people.

No I'm wondering if the electronics industry needs a slap up side the head. It is impossible to buy OEM parts or equivelant on the open market. Your only choice is a certified store/dealer.  You can't get away with that crap in the automotive world.
