Internet Explorer Running slow
« on: April 12, 2012, 08:26:55 am »
I am running Windows XP Service Pack 3 on a Dell with 2 gigs of Ram and an AMD Athlon 64 Dual core Processor.

I have IE8 installed, but lately it has been been slow in loading pages and video playback is choppy at best. I clear the cookies daily.

I also have Google Chrome installed and it runs quick and does not have the slowness of IE8. I have notice that with Chrome, not everything is visible on web pages, like when i was using turbo tax this year, where you had to select an option for something, you couldn't see that you had marked it in Chrome, but could on IE8.

Any ideas on why IE8 runs so slow and Chrome runs so much faster?

I have my internet thru Clear, a wireless broadband service.

Have you checked for viruses and malware?

IE has always been a resource/memory hog.  Chrome is the fastest browser, IE use to be the slowest.  I hate IE and only use it to make sure their crap browser is following the HTML and CSS standards when I build a site.  They use to be horrible at it but have gotten better.

I have no issues with not being able to see something in Chrome and have used Turbo Tax with it.

Yes, I have checked for viruses and malware, this is a brand new install on a 500gb hardrive, as my 250gb hard drive was starting to die. I ran Norton on it after the reinstall and regularly scan it.

Video playback is choppy, pages take forever to lad and it sometimes just freezes up. I like Chrome, but I would really like to figure our the issue with IE. Its driving me nuts, plus i will be starting school in a couple of weeks and am gonna need IE to do it.

I would reformat the drive and start over.  I'm using IE8 and no problems like that.  Checked you internet connection and speed/bandwidth/packet loss to make sure it isn't that.

Well if it was an connection problem why would one run fast an the the other slow, as they are using the same one?

because maybe the timing was coincidental.  If it's consistent, then my other recommendation stands.
