Hello,
I can buy this axle, but might need some small parts, which model is this? and where can I get parts?
It's intended for a '77 W-200, with a parttime transferbox.
And I think of gong to a manual lock hub.

anyone any suggestions?

Looks to be an early 80's Dodge 8 lug D44 front axle.

If you are going to replace the axle in the truck, you can swap the brake stuff from the 77 axle. Also looks like you will need a hub & rotor, and bearing stuff for the one side.

Of course, I would go through it, and drop in new ball joints, tie rod ends, U-joints, seals, ect.

Other wise, it should be a bolt in swap for the front axle in your truck.

If you can, post up an overall pic, so I can verify the year.

Also, any 70's Except for dodge) and 80's D44 locking hubs will fit.

I'll have to see if I can take another foto tomorrow, actually we are not allowed to go anywhere if it's for anything else then shopping, and then only for life support, that means we need to print and sign a leaflet which says where you go and for what purpose, a limit of one hour, and if the police controles you and your too late, or you are not where the leaflet says you had to go it's a 136 fine (for the first time) and more for if it's repeats....
and if you go out because you like to buy a book, dvd or something like that, that's impossible, it's not considered important for life!

though, you know where to get parts for such a axle? (me not beeing in the USA)

Well, do not risk anything just for a photo. That is an automatic locking hub on the one side, that pretty well nails it down to 82 to 84, unless someone swapped parts.

The brake rotor, bearings seal, and locking hubs can be bought at almost any parts store here, no idea how your area is. The only real hard part would be the hub itself. Here a junkyard would be the best source.

The hub and caliper bracket are going to be the difficult items to find. Also would have to see how well that rusted spindle cleans up.

If this is about doing a full-to-part time axle conversion in your W200... I think it would be best to keep looking for an axle that's complete on both sides.

Either way... you gotta find more parts.  ;)

The bearing hub is the difficult one. I did find a used caliper bracket:

OTOH, the chevy hub/rotor is available new (i.e. rockauto). And the chevy caliper brackets are also available.

    https://torqueking.com/product/30262/qu30262u-used-left-3-4-ton-combination-caliper-support-and-brake-shield/

Maybe somebody more savvy can chime in on a chevy brake conversion....

To use chebby brakes on a D44, you need chebby steering knuckles, or a lot of machining on the dodge ones.

I'm 99% sure the brake adapter is the same, or interchangeable, with what is on his full time axle. I just pile them on my shelf, and never ran into one that did not fit. 2wds, and cars do have different sizes, but all the truck front D44s, are the same. The only hard part for area51 to find will be the hub, everything else is available new, I bet all could be found on Rockauto. A quick glance, and I could not think of something not listed. Of course, finding a whole hub with rotor/lugs, bearings, and seals would be a better deal.

Boyce Equipment in Utah used to carry the parts & complete axle assembly, not that it would be financially feasible for shipping to France.

How popular are 70's American military 4x4's in France?

They may not be real popular, but they are rare, so they are kept in good condition. Like old Land Rovers over here, they are around, but kept in great condition, due to the fun of getting parts.  Just my opinion from what I have seen. Anxiously awaiting Area51's response.

They are rare, I only know of two others in a 200km radius around me, and one of them is stacked in a hayloft under a tarp, all rusty.

Just to be sure, does the axle fron the foto's has a name (Type?) so that when I go shopping for pieces I know what too look for?
    Thanks.

    • Better to be a Wolf of Odin than a lamb of god.
It's a Dana 44 axle.  Since parts are ordered based on the vehicle it was installed in, you should probably be looking for parts for a '80-'84 Dodge W250 with the light duty (3,500 lbs) front axle.
