Transmission slips........
« on: February 18, 2004, 01:12:07 AM »
I have a 94 Ram 1500 w/Auto tranny with o/d. The othere day it felt like the tranny was slipping when I was going uphill @ about 50 MPH. My mileage is at about 85k and don't know when the fluid/filter was changed last.

Any ideas?

Sounds like its time for a rebuild.  Those overdrives go out at about 70k, so you did pretty good with 80 some k.

Do a service on the trans and go from there. Check the pan for any metal shavings. Then do the adjustments and try it out.

Its not going to be cheap.  Those 46re/518's are basically a 727 with an overdrive slapped on.  So basically the o/d unit doesn't get enough fluid to keep cool and they go out.  Its not going to be cheap.  My dad's cost him about $2000 when he had his done.
