The window channel felt runs all the way down the window channels inside the door. You need to pull the door panels off to get to it. Pry it out very carefully. The felt at the top of the door can also be pried out with a small screwdriver. Then throw it away and get some new felt from J.C. Whitney. Same with the weatherstripping. It may be glued in several places and weatherstripping that old rarely comes off in one piece.

You won't believe the difference the new stuff makes in quieting down the road noise.

I second the motion made by PrimerGrey!

Just be carefull removing the door panels, they are held in with spring clips and can be stubborn, so don't break the plastic.  Also one screw behng the door handle (which has to come off too).  then remove the window crank or disconnect the battery and remove the power window and door lock harness from behind the panel.

To tell the truth the window channel stuff from JC is pretty good.  the felt anti rattle strips are not so hot.  At least on my '87 the rear contour at the rear of the door was curved all wrong and some of the spring clups could have been better positioned.  Not sure if anyone else makes them though, so you may be stuck.  You can get complete wx kits from JC everything for both doors except the vent wing, for some reason no  one is re-popping those.

Good luck and let us see some pics post paint!

The factory stuff is still available I believe.  There are aslo a few aftermarket suppliers, but most of it is Chinese manufacturing so it may all be the same but packaged differently.  Guys like Raybuck and autopartswarehouse carry it.

Thr felts ,I believe, have little metel "tabs" that stick down into slots in the door. It's been about 7 years or so since I did mine so I'm a little foggy on them. I think they should just pull right out tho. If yuo're going to take all this stuff out, take the glass out too. it makes it easier. I tried the Whitney stuff and didn't like it. I had the felts, the channels, door gaskets . All of it. I thought I would go the cheaper route but ended up getting all Mopar stuff. It was still readily available and wasn't bad on price. Everything else that went into my truck was Mopar and the one thing that I tried to save on ended up notworking. The fit wasn't good, I couldn't even close the doors with the gaskets on . The part #'s for the Mopar stuff is:
55023781-Door Gaskets
04083831-Felts
04161679-Felts
Keep in mind that if you go with the Mopar stuff, if youbuy new stuff, you'll need two of each of the felts. I believe they came one in a package at the time. I can't seem to find the # for the window channel. Ask a couple of the guys on here or check the part # database, it may be in there.

I am actually going to order a new set of weather stripping from www.jcwhitney.com next weekend. they have a special on the the widow pieces at $54, Door stripping is $20 per door, and window channel rubber is $35 per door ( or you can get the cheaper stuff for $16 per door, but this is generic stuff, so i don't know how well it will fit).  They do offer a complete kit that includes the door rubber, weather strips, and window channel for both doors for $158. as far as new rubber for the wings, I don't think it exists, and you will probably have to buy a unmeasured length of rubber for the gate as I don't see any listed for it.

Here is the link to the jcwhitney weather stripping page, but keep in mind it is for my 89.

Whatever you decide to go withlet us know and let us know how it fits. It'll be interesting on how it is. I know my bro used the Jc Whitneystuff and it worked fine. I tried it and it didn't work good for me. I'm a bit picky when it comes to my truck. I always like to use factory parts when available. Whatever you do just don't put the old stuff back on. The new paint job and yourself will thank you.

Yes, take the glass out.  It's next to impossible to get the glass channels (or in Mopar speak "runs") out without tearing them up with the glass in.  And I wouldn't even waste my time trying to put them back in with the glass installed in the door.

The part numbers and availability are as follows for an '88 model since that's about midway and should fit all D & W series:

Door runs ( top of the door and down the back side) are part number 4354047 and are available and list for $59.10 ea.

Vent wing run (down the front of the door at the vent window) are part number 4083831 and are CANCELLED NS1.

Felt or "cat whiskers" for the inner right or outer left are part number 4161678 and are available and list for $46.35 ea.

The felt for the inner left or outer right are part number 4161679 and are available and list for $46.35 ea.

The door weatherstrip mounted on the body is part number 55023781 and is available and lists for $68.10 ea.

And the gasket for the vent wing for '87 - '93 is part number 4354606 & 4354607 for right & left respectively and are available for $62.50 ea.

I can get the part number and availability for 1986 and earlier model vent window gaskets tomorrow if needed.

Could you get the vent window gasket part #'s and availibility for a '74 AW100? Thanks!

For build dates after 6-10-74 9with a pickup style door) part number 3739464 for right side and 3739465 for the left and both have been cancelled for a long, long time.  For the topless door, there doesn't seem to be a separate part number for the weatherstrip as I only see a number for the channel and frame.  The glass part number is the same for a pickup style door, so unless the frame is really different, it should use the same numbers I posted above.  Also, the above part numbers are good up to and including the 1977 model year.
