Rear hatch adjusting?
« on: July 31, 2006, 11:24:07 AM »
My rear hatch doesn't close right. I tried loosening the hnges, but they only seem to adjust the distance the top of the hatch is out from the gasket.

My hatch it too close to the left side, and the right latch misses the "post" on the body.

The posts on the body are adjustable.  Loosen them and they will slide in, out, up and down.
There should be a plastic round each post.  They ware out and fall off.  There is a How-to for fixing them.
It helps if you have them snug and than tap them slightly to move them around.
There also are two adjustable stops on each side of the hatch opening at the bottom that are mounted on springs that put a little tension on the bottom of the hatch when it is closed so it will pop open slightly when the button  is pushed open it.  The buttons are adjustable in or out.  This gives a little room to get your fingers under the bottom edge..

That may help, but the hatch isn't centered at the bottom, is there a way to fix that? It is like the roof is lower on the right side.

Is the fiberglass shot where one of the top hinges bolt to the hatch? If it is, it will cause the hatch to sag to one side or the other and not line up right. I think there is a how to on how to fix this problem! Not sure though. Good luck!

Sounds like my 85 sagging hach.  I bent the hinge slightly so it now works but it is still lower on the right.

Yea, there is a crack in the fiberglass near the right hinge. No luck on finding a "how to".

Thanks!
