Rear Drum Brake Diagram
« on: March 3, 2005, 01:56:24 PM »
Hey Ya'll,
Does anyone have an fsm brake diagram for a chrysler 9 1/4 drum brake system that they can post a picture of so that I can print it? I got the haynes guide but the picture is crappy and I can't see enouggh of it to do the brakes. The whole kit and kaboodle was gone when we got the truck from some dude. Both sides are just hollow shells and I got the parts from the discount auto but I can't remember how it goes together.
TIA

One of the photo's in this 'How-To' shows a loaded backing plate, although the Ebrake lever is hidden.

OOOH these F-ing brake shoe hold down springs sucked. Believe it or not it is cold in Fla and it is raining has been all freaking day. SO I am going in and out until my hands get numb and then back out after I warm up LOL. I have a forty by forty pole barn but that aint where my axleshaft broke :(. I almost figured this damn thing out but here we are near the end and I can fugure out how to get the top spring to go onto the that bolt type thing in the very center at the top it's right above the wheel cylinder. I keep stretching the springs and right before I ge tthem on thet damn thing slips and shoots off then I go hunting for it. AHHHHHH stupi ass drum brakes can't wait to put my 60's on here and do the rear disc conversion.

See your other post in the Technical Help Section.
If you have no time to answer the questions or try the advice then don't expect to fix it anytime soon!

name brand Vice-Grips and a lot of pulling gets them on, I had to do it on/off 3 times in one day because we put 1 side on then said Fuc* it and went and got the spring kit to replace everything I had put on lol.

They also make a tool for it if you want to go and buy it, me and my bro have always used vice grips but when he worked at schwabs they used the tool and I guess that it goes easy.

They sell the tools for the shoe hold-down springs and the one for the return springs (the ones that go to the knob at the top of the drum) at Sears and most auto shops.  They are WELL worth the money!!  I did without the first time and was amazed at how much easier it is with the tools.  If you have to, you can use a large (common) screwdriver and lever the springs on to the stud, but it is hard to keep the end of the screwdriver from slipping off the stud...  If you have a few extra bucks, just get the tools and save yourself some headaches.

use a phillips head screwdriver, and if you position the blades of the phillips head right, it won't slip off the stud.
