new battery and alternator and starter and still wont start
« on: December 30, 2010, 03:17:48 PM »
volts are good on battery and i just replaced the alternator. is there supposed to be a ground wire connected to the alternator? i connected the positives and there are no other unconnected wires i can find that would have hooked to the neg lead on the alternator. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Howdy,

By "no start" i am going to ass(!)ume you mean the engine will not turn over with the key in the 'start" position.

You probably have corroded or broken battery leads down to the starter.  If you own a multi-meter you can find exactly where your problem lies.  Read the sticky thread at the top of this forum titled 'where did my electricity go"

Keep us informed.

Have you pulled and had your starter tested? If it is worn out and requiring a huge amount of amps to turn over your engine won't turn or start either. Check your battery connections for cleanliness first though.

Turn the headlights on and turn the key. If the starter kills the lights, you need to check the battery and connections. If the lights don't dim the starter circuit has a problem.

yeah everything tested good.. so i got tired of troubleshooting and went ahead and cut new wires to run to the alternator and it works fine now. my guess is corrosion. thanks fellas

Your timing isn't really off (less than 180 though)?
