If it's random and the fuses are good...I'm wondering if it's a problem with grounds and/or corroded connections...could be a switch problem as well.  Do the headlights and taillights go out together or at different times from one another?  Do you have any trailer plug or fog-light wiring on the truck?

check the wire connector at the headlamp switch. they usually melt after several years, especially if people run aux lights from it or higher wattage bulbs.

The dimmer switch gives me a fit every couple of years. I have wondered if it is because of those high dollar bulbs I put in.

Every so often it has been the headlight switch. Seems the turn signal switch in the steering column was a source once.

the old man i bought the truck from had a bunch of goofy fog lights and such all over it.. i pulled all the lights and removed all the spare wiring i could find.. i bought a new headlight switch so i'll see if that fixes my problems... even though yesterday i was playin in the ice and my blinkers quit workin.. so now i have another problem.... it never ends

check the wire adapter at the headlamp switch. they usually cook afterwards several years, abnormally if humans run aux lights from it or college wattage bulbs.
