Brake Master Cylinder - Break Line Fitting Sizes?
« on: April 25, 2012, 01:59:24 PM »
Before I pull the lines from my Brake Master Cyl, I want to be prepared with plugs I can quickly thread back into the master cylinder.  I looked all over the chapter on brakes in my service manual and I saw no mention of the size/thread pitch of those line fittings.

I have the 88 rc with the master cyl that has the 2 round caps.

Anyone know what size these things are?

the NEW master comes with the right size plugs / other wise there like 3/8,s coarse and fine threads / two thread pitches so you cant mix them up

Thank you, but I'm not getting a new master cylinder so I won't have those convenient plastic plugs that have the correct size and thread pitch.

So the front and rear lines are a different size/thread pitch.  Good to know... but I still am hoping someone on here who has re-workes their brakes remembers what those specs are so I can get a set of plugs in advance.

I am trying to not drain my master to the point where I would have to bleed it again.

If you are replacing the lines you can cut them long enough to bend them up higher than the master and they will not leak.  You are getting new fittings for it, correct?
One fitting is 1/2"x20 and the other is 9/16"x20 IIRC
I will check that in a bit and get back to you for sure

I was going to just get a set of the really short break lines from NAPA or Autozone that have the larger fittings on 1 end and the standard 3/16 inverted flare on the other... and cap that on the small end.  They come in various sizes and thread pitches on the larger end.

Then I am going to remove the OE lines to the control block/prop valve and work up a temporary by-pass directly to the front and rear brake lines.

I don't want to ruin the OE lines because I may end up just hooking it all back up again.

If you are wondering... yes I did a disc swap in the rear and am methodically working through my "brake pedal issues".

went to NAPA online and looked up the Master Cylinder.  Picture looks like the one in my truck.

Just as you said pir2... 9/16 20 and 1/2 20

Thanks

why do you want to upset the balance of the system?
