4wheel drive doesnt work
« on: October 21, 2002, 05:08:00 PM »
On my ramcharger, if u put it into fourwheel drive, it goes in, but the front doesnt do anything, the driveshaft will spin, but thats it, it acts as if the ring and pinion is stripped out. I was told to check the canister on the axle. How can i tell if that is bad or not? Thanks

The canister that they are talking about is the CAD unit on the front axle.  It's on the driver's side near the spring.  It'll be a small box unit that's bolted to the top of the axle tube.  Check to make sure there is vaccum pressure when you engage 4wd.  You should be able to engage it and then check for vaccum.  If there is no vaccum check the lines for breaks or if they came off.
