1984 Ram Charger Power Windows
« on: March 3, 2007, 10:08:40 PM »
Help!!!....  The power window on the passenger side hasnt worked for a while.. You have to put it up and down by sliding it with your hand... kind of lame  ::)  soooo... i need help... first, i am looking for a wiring diagram, i want to check a couple things and for the life of me i cant find it in the haynes manual, its driving me crazy.  The manual basically states the obvios, if you know what i mean.  There's a wire that looks like it isnt connected... but i cant see where to connect it.  I have the pannel off, but the whole door isnt taken apart, im just using a mirror to look up there.
It makes noise when the button is pushed, thats a good thing right????  So... what would you suggest?  Im really good about reading instructions and doing it, but i need the right instructions.
I realllly want to surprise my husband and get it fixed for him... thankssss soooo much !! :D

If the motor makes noise, it's probably the bushings in the gear housing that are your problem. They are plastic and wear out over time. HERE IS A SET for a Furd. The guy doesn't have any listed for Dodge, but you might contact him and see if he has any. I replaced the ones on my wife's old car. PITA, but it fixed the problem.

You can replace the lift gear (plastic gear that wears out over time).  I had to do this on my 85 RC's passenger window.  The part can be purchased for under 20 bucks at Advanced Auto Parts:

ACI Window Lift Gear Kit

Part Number: 87433

Hope this helps........

It's not a perfect fix, but I found some bushings at Lowes that worked for me.  They are Hillman brand nylon spacers 1/2X.194x1/2.  I ground alittle off the side of the spacer to fit between the two gear pieces and slid it together.  It make the gear pack alittle thicker but at $.92 for a pack of two bushings it's a great fix for me.  I also used this as an oppurtunity to grease the regulators.
