No.

The '88 is a standard rotation box, if the '77 is a 4wd it's a reverse rotation box.  Plus, the '77 will have SAE flared hose fittings, the '88 will have metric o-ringed hose fittings.

yes it will if you change the hoses / the REVERSE box is only if you have the CRADLE mounting system / if you have the PLATE style it,ll fit just fine / l have dozens of them / you can have a few if you want

I saw a Mopar NOS unit on Ebay & was thinking about it for the 440. When I drilled the input shaft for a set screw dimple I went a little deep & now it leaks like a open hose :'(. I would have thought that input shaft was solid. I have the used unit off the 85 that I'm parting out but I wanted a new unit for that truck. Thanks for the offer though ;).

Dodgeboys,  Can you explain the differences between the cradle and the plate systems?  How can these be recognized?

What he described is the different mounting on the 4wds for standard rotation and reverse rotation boxes.  The reverse rotation boxes are turned sideways and the sector shaft exits from the side (parallel to the ground), the sector shaft in the standard rotation boxes exits from the bottom of the box.  Internally, the differences mean that when the input is turned one direction, the sector (output) shaft turns in the opposite directions between the two boxes.
