New...old emblems.
« on: September 15, 2005, 07:29:14 PM »
I want to have some emblems made for me.  I love the look of the 70's Dodge stuff..the ones that were made of metal.  I don't need them to be metal, but I like the thick, weighty look to them.  I want to know if anyone has seen or heard of a company that makes that style of emblem.  I found a few that make stickers, but they are pointless.  I have also found some that make thin metal stickers, but they are in the same catagory.  Someone help...

Check out some old car shows and see if someone is selling some NOS or re-popped emblems.

Might be able to find some half decent ones at a wreckers and have them re-chromed.

Well here's the thing.  It's not an existing emblem I want, but to have some custom emblems made, with the same fonts and thickness, and look of the old weightly metal looking ones.  So I could have an emblem made to my design, but still looks stock like it rolled off the line on a Ramcharger.

Any collages or university's near you with an art program ? An art student may be able to make something up and be able to use it for a class project as well.

depending on your skill with a soldering iron and what it says you could find a bunch of differnt truck, van, ramcharger emblems and cut them all up to spell what you want to say...ive thought about doing similar ideas with the 80s emblems to my rc too.
89 RC 2WD
215-65-15/255-60-15, flat black and tribals, shaved trim & handles, eledbrock carb and manifold, duals, 318 auto

Plans: supra engine/tranny/IRS. tube chassis and cage. body drop. lightweight parts. tons of body mods. PC for audio signal. possibly make it AWD just to make my job harder.

I know you want custom...think expensive....if you're going to have someone fab them for you. Find a place that has a laser engraver and a CNC router...but one-off stuff is spendy. The current model Ram emblems are individial letters and have a "heavy" appearance. They taper at the top an bottom (domed in the cross-section). Heck of a lot cheaper than having someone machine some for you.
