Mysterious black boxes

I was doing some de-construction today on my Ramcharger and was wondering about two little black boxes on the inside of the driver's side fender. They both have three conductor plugs going to them. One has "60 sec" and part #4111180 the other says "90 sec" and part #4111481. Anybody know what these are for? Air conditioning or cruise control maybe? I'm planning on changing all the wiring for a Painless universal 18 circuit harness and need to know if these boxes are necessary.

Also, what do I have to do/change to upgrade the A/C to R134A? The A/C has never worked since I have had the truck. The compressor seems okay. Can I re-use it or do I need a different one?

Youll have to replace ALL of the O-rings in your AC system otherwise your 134 will slowly leak out leaving you with no charge. I've been thinking about doing this to my truck as well, but just don't have the time.

why would you want to go to 134a? it sucks ass. 134a doesnt work nearly as good as R12.
I say fix your ac, and fill it with R12 it will work better and probally end up being the same price if not cheaper then the conversion.

I did the R134a conversion by using one of those kits from Wal-Mart, 3-4 years ago. No o-ring change. It works just the same as before the conversion, no better, no worse. But, mine was working before the conversion, unlike MacGuyver's

Thanks for the info. As for switching to R134A, the choice is not mine to make. R12 is illegal and not available here. It's either convert or cook my brains in the sun.

Any more clues about the black boxes? According to DONK it looks like they are for the EGR system, but I want to be sure before I trash them.

Great! Thanks a million! Now that's two less things to wire and clutter up my engine compartment. Shh! Don't tell the bureaucrats or the tree huggers I'm eliminating one of their stupid smog gadgets. Anyway with the MPI and all the other mods I'm sure the engine will run cleaner than it did when new.
