52 or 56" Chevy spring swap?
« on: March 18, 2017, 11:27:14 PM »
I'm looking to lift my 78 RC 6-7" and I have been reading a lot about doing a swap to a Chevy spring. My question is is would I notice a difference in the 52" vs the 56" spring? And how difficult is the swap?

Jungle has a kit on the forum for 52" leafs:

56" is tough to package.... it adds another 4" on the back of the spring.

That's good to hear, will the 52"s bolt in the rear?

In theory at least, they will, but they push your axle back 2". Dodge rears are also 52" long.

I just put 52in chevy rears in the front of my truck.  Ride difference is amazing.  You couldn't really go any longer or the front of the spring would be in front of the bumper haha.  I got about 6-7inches of lift in the front, that was the combo of using the chevy springs (about 4in of additional arch all in themselves) and dropping the spring eye down about 2in.

For the rear, I'm currently working on putting 64in chevy springs in.  Before I made that choice, I used the stock 52in dodge rear springs, but made the RCC plan shackle flip brackets.  This, without the factory lift block, ended up with around 3-4in of lift over stock. The 64s have similar arch, so ride height is about the same as when I did the shackle flip.

    Hope this helps.
