Anyone have any experience with these?

I'm thinking of swapping the D35 in my Wrangler for one out of a Cherokee.  They're a little cheaper and a little easier to find than a Jeep D44.

They hold up pretty well under A-Body cars  Wink  IIRC the D44 is 8.50" which is  just a little bigger than the 8-1/4.

Also the 8.25" was used under some 70's Half-Ton Dodge Trucks aswell, never heard of any problems with them either.  infact my '72 D100 has a 8.25" under it and my dad used it HARD for years as a Work Truck

It's not as strong as a 9 1/4" but then it doesn't have all the problems of a 9 1/4" either.  They are a decent rear axle for light applications.

I'll never do any hardcore wheeling with it, but I want something stronger than the 35c

I've been picking people's brains and searching the web for info.  I'm looking for something that is pretty much a bolt in deal. 

If I have to go the route of having spring perches rewelded, I'll probably try to find a Ford 8.8

I would much rather have a ford 8.8 from an exploder (not sure, but car 8.8s may be of similar width too?)

31 spline axles, same bolt pattern, similar dimension, AND strong likely hood of good gears, trac lock differential, AND disk brakes. Disk brake probably being the sweetest part of the deal since a 8.25 could have a 3.55 gear set and trac lock.

I know an 8.8 is stronger , but I have neither welder nor welding skills.  I can also get an 8.25 with 4.1 gears for less than a similar equipped 8.8.

When I do the swap, I want to be able to get it done all at once.

I think that with the easy to moderate off roading I do, the Chrysler rear will hold up just fine.
