I'd like to trade my shoulder in but have been told it's a total loss.  :P

Carrier looks good. Getting started on mine finally. Setting up my welder at my father inlaw's so I have some room to work. I have to dig my slider mock ups out of storage and first them this year too. The whole working out of state thing killed my RC project time for too long. So glad that's done.

    I removed a 32 tooth speedo gear from the transfer case and replaced it with a 43 tooth gear.  Now my speedo reads correctly (verified against GPS).

    So if you are running 36 inch tires with 4.56 gears then you need a 32 tooth gear in the T-case and if you are running 36 inch tires with 5.86 gears then you need a 43 tooth gear in the T-case.  You can get these from Quadratech.

    it is nice to have an accurate speedometer!

    sneak preview of the new sending unit assembly, complete with in-tank pump and aftermarket wiring harness.  Fuel feed and return are -6 AN and the vent is -8 AN.  The internal lock-ring has 1/4 lock nuts welded to the bottom side and is held in place by two allen head bolts, then the 9 flange bolts retain the whole thing tight.  1/8" rubberized-cork gasket, Viton seals for the flange bolts.  Will have the sending unit powdercoated with epoxy.  Should be good to go.

    why with "Mad Magic" of course  ;D

    naww - the ring itself isn't 'solid' - it has a slit - dip one end past the tank inner lip and rotate it and it sorta 'screws' in - similar to feeding a key ring through a key eye...sorta - make sense?

    Thank you very much for putting the link to Homer's beautiful Ramcharger . you two have made a beast . I love the story about your Grandfather and the shovel you keep with your truck . I deeply respect for my Grandfather so I was happy to see the same sentiment you have for yours . And a shoutout to Michigan . Where did he live up here? That was a really good article .  It's a great creation you guys created  {beer}

    Thanks Ramnut!  My Grandfather lived off of Ballenger Hwy in Flint Michigan.  He worked at the GM truck plant which is still in operations and it is same plant that built my wife's 2003 GMC 1500HD Quadrasteer!  I love opening the drivers side door and seeing the flint truck plant sticker on it  ;D

    I lived in Byron Michigan for 6 years then moved to Grand Blanc in 1978 where I graduated high school.  Mom worked for GM as well at the AC Spark Plug division off of Saginaw - those GM operations are all closed down now.

    My truck will be printed in FourWheeler magazine within the next month or two - they always post teasers on the web prior to printing.

    So I engaged my front axle Grizzly locker today during our spring snow storm and while driving straight with light throttle it pulled / steered hard right i.e. let go of the steering wheel and it would make a right hand turn.  I unlocked left wheel and with the right locked it pulled/steered left.  then I unlocked the right and locked the left and it pulled/steered right.  I locked both hubs and it still wanted to pull right.  thoughts?

    I now where that is although I grew up and still live in Farmington . I was in Byron a couple years ago  and if you remember a Barnes rd. that is where my mom's side originated from . In fact the homestead is still there and that rd. is named after them  . My sister and brother in law live a little south of there down Argentine Rd. . Peaceful out there unlike my place . My uncle worked at the Buick plant in Flint . Most of my family went north to Hale and Glennie area . Also have a couple friends that live down the road in Perry . What a small world . I'm sorry to hear about the front end giving you trouble  . Hope it's not serious .

    I know those areas very well - I have an aunt still living in Durand.

    No worries on the front end - we'll figure it out.  Still breaking it in.  I may pull the yukon locking hubs out and make sure they are fully engaging; it was very cold and I was thinking maybe one was not engaged.

    Ah - if your front passenger tire is at 20 PSI and the rest of your tires are at 40 PSI and you engage your 4x4 with grizzly locker it pulls to the right - air up tires and issue is fixed   :o

    I'm just glad I checked the tire pressure first rather than jumping straight in to redoing the hubs!   ;D  We're taking it out tomorrow and wheeling Metberry Gultch, Longwater Gultch and Hackett Gultch with our Bighorn 4x4 club.  It will be the first time wheeling it with the grizzly and 5.38s!

    Enjoy the fun . I did forget to check my pressure . They had a recycle day at the local college and I was cutting it close so off I went and didn't have time . But both my trucks have had the best luck keeping pressure and my RC didn't drift while breaking so I think it's good . But I will check anyways just to see for myself . At least I got a few things out of my garage . Had florescent bulbs waiting to fall and make a gassy mess . Hope your 4 wheeling has no breakage .  {cruise}

    ...so Homie - how's Levi get around on/off road now that it has the 5.86's and a Grizzly in place of the ARB?...  :)

    Awesome - daily driving is very fun  ;D - plenty of fast light throttle acceleration   {cool} and extreme low crawl ratio of 102% !!!  couple the low crawl with the Detroit locker in the rear and the grizzly up front I can go down steep grades at .75 miles per hour = no brakes, super sure footedness and complete control of my heavy rig.  Normal driving in 4x4 with the lockers is just as pleasant - I can't hear the lockers clicking or anything.  Turns are normal and really it feels just like driving my 1974 RC in 4x4 going around turns!  difference is all four wheels are locked and I don't have to cycle my ARB on, off, on, off, on... you get picture.

    I love it and would not go back to an air locker for my purposes!  Remember, I am a daily driver 95% of the time and 5% trail yacht!

    I think a combination of 36" x 15.5" tires with the grizzly on snow/ice with only 20 psi really exasperated the pull.  Wen wheeling at Metberry and Longwater gulches and it was perfect.  I was able to be in 4x4 with both mechanical lockers front and rear - turning was excellent and going over rocks was a piece of cake - the truck's capabilities make up for the drivers lack of experience!

    • I knew I bought the right rig when my wife got into it the first time and said: This is a Man's Truck
    Thanks Ramnut -Truck is very dependable and a blast to drive.  I took it by the weigh station and with a half tank of gas and all my daily gear it weighed in at 7020 lbs - so with the family, my tools, spare parts, and camping gear I am pushing 8000 lbs plus.  I guess that is why these new 5.86 gears feel so much better  ;D

    ...wow yah it's heavier than I thought it would be - t weighs as much as Nacho did...and that truck had a Cummins and a cast iron doubler...but Nacho's frame wasn't boxed nor did it have a rear winch so there a bunch there...

     :o Wow , I didn't realize it would weigh that much either but I guess if I thought about it I can see why . There is alot of extra strength added to it . With the power that motor has and the gears you now have I would bet your truck doesn't seem that heavy at all . You guys turned it into a great truck .  {beer}
