so i have a 79 plymoth trailduster. i have had it for over a year now and i have a situation were i can start working on it. im starting a new page on it because im starting to actually upgrade it. i was going to use my old post but people just looked and didn't get many reply's lol so lets try some thing new. beguine the plans: im planing on a 3/4 tone axle swap dana 60 front and rear and am going to try to find factory way of doing over sized brakes in front and disk in rear. high steer with cross over conversion and possible hydro assist. a 4bt cummins trubo diesel and a manual conversion. custom bumpers front and rear. 12000 pound winch. probbly only going to have a 4 inch lift with 35 inch tires. im taking a lot of ques form the super nacho that madmax is building. but i don't think i will be able to do that uber sweet airbag system at the moment because im not that much of a fab guy. the history: i bought it a while ago because my 84 dodge pickup died on me(timing chain went) and i didn't feel like having it fixed. i lived in a apartment that wouldn't let us work on ower vehicles. i was walking to work one day when i saw it sitting in a empty dirt parking lot witha sale sign on it. called the guy up and 800 dollers i was driving it home lol. took it out wheeling a while later and wound up finding more trouble then i was ready for lol(see picts) wound up having to have it towed to my friends house were i spent a bunch of money on fluids to get it to drive again because i got water every were in i, tranny engine axles cab EVERY WERE. when i opened my door i swear i had more water in the truck then in the pit lol. well i was driving on the free way one day a few months later. i steped on teh go peddle and the trans down shifted and broke. wound up walking a mile to a pay phone to call my friend to tow it again . had him tow it to my mecanic friend shop were he and i rebuilt the trans ower selfs. and now it sits in the back yard of were im staying. waiting for a new life. what i spent so far: 800 for the truck 200 for Borgeson steering shaft 814(so far) for the dodge dana 60 front for 150(got 2 spindles for 160 and 2 calipers for 90 spindle nuts for 30 and 2 sets of gm style internal hubs rotors and studs for 190 ea(385 total) ) 225 dodge np205 form a 93 dodge diesel auto (23 spline) and the pictures: the truck when i first got it. the too much trouble i got into the dana 60 front i got for 150 (any one know any good places to get parts for these?)

Nice truck you've got there. It's interesting that it has the same name as my crew cab project I started in 2003 posted in the truck section.

If you can't find one the dealer still carries them for about $200.

we still carry the master and slave for the 92-93 RC w/NV-4500 too. you'll most likely have to modify an older clutch pedal though, they are different and N/A now. If you can't find one the dealer still carries them for about $200.

well i had hope to get a nv4500 for 600 this weekend. but some one beat me to it by 20 minuts oh well. but i did manage to get a np205 for 225 bucks it came out of a 91 dodge with a diesel. but it was a auto and not a manual trans. which means it has a 23 spline input instead of a 29 which the nv4500 uses. which is good and bad. if i cant find a good priced nv4500 i can put it to a auto easly. but if i do find the manual trans they make a kit that i can convert it to the 29 spline count (with some machine work, thank goodness im a machinist.) it took a little looking but i found a good deal on the kit and the info i told you from high impact trans. http://www.high-impact.net/transmission_and_gear/nv4500_dodge5.9diesel88-03_auto.htm4WD applications
Dodge Cummins Trucks with auto transmissions: were supplied with a 23 spline input on the transfer case. All of the Factory Dodge Cummins 5 speed applications were 29 spline into the transfer case. The 29 spline shaft is stronger than the 23 spl shaft, and the auto trans with the torque converter does tend to cushion the output of the trans from the heavy torque pulses generated by the Cummins diesel
We can solve this in 2 ways: We can supply the NV4500 in the package with the 23 spl output shaft which will directly fit your transfer case.
OR we can help you in determining what is needed and getting the parts to upgrade your transfer case to the heavier duty 29 spline input.
NP241 or 271: I think all we would need to change is the input gear, est $147-225
NP205: There are several parts. You will also need to modify your stock adapter housing and MAKE the larger seal fit and work. You will also need to machine the NP205 main case to accept the larger bearing Adapter Kit to convert NP205 from 23 spline to 29 spline 29 Spl NP205 Input Gear w/ conversion bearing $187.50 29 spl Coupler $98.55 Spacer housing gaskets $4.38 Seal and gasket kit: 93 Dodge NP205 $32.50

try greanleaf autowrecking. i bet they have a yard up there some where www.greenleafauto.com , dodge made a 23 spline NV4500 for gas engined 5.2/5.9 94-02 2500/3500 rams. that's what i bought. they will sell you a used trans or can get rebuilt unit. they give you a 6 month warranty on used parts and will sell a 2 year, 24,000mi warranty for a little extra. i think the remans come with that 2 year. well i had hope to get a nv4500 for 600 this weekend. but some one beat me to it by 20 minuts oh well. but i did manage to get a np205 for 225 bucks it came out of a 91 dodge with a diesel. but it was a auto and not a manual trans. which means it has a 23 spline input instead of a 29 which the nv4500 uses. which is good and bad. if i cant find a good priced nv4500 i can put it to a auto easly. but if i do find the manual trans they make a kit that i can convert it to the 29 spline count (with some machine work, thank goodness im a machinist.) it took a little looking but i found a good deal on the kit and the info i told you from high impact trans. http://www.high-impact.net/transmission_and_gear/nv4500_dodge5.9diesel88-03_auto.htm

well here is a small update. i won 2 spindles off ebay for 160. one was 42 with shipping and the other was 117 with shipping. also got a set of chevy calipers for 90 nib shipped. the spindle are the kit number 70013 which comes with Oil Seal Spacer – Wheel Bearing Spindle Oil Seal (block-vee) Needle Bearing Assembly Spindle – Wheel Bearing so that brings my front axle up to 404. probbly would have been easyier to just get the whole thing at once. but this way i can have one and if i am good i can get it for cheaper and buy it over time picts to come when i get picts to post. still kneed hubs caliper bracket rotors hub lock outs bearings? spindle nuts break pads brake lines(i want braded steel lines any one know were to get a set?)

All you guys going with CTD-what a great project.Makes the RC/TD trucks even more of a work horse than theyalready are. What are you going in the rear? Discs/drums? I did the rear disc swap from TSM. What a sweet deal. Brackets are top notch with no mods needed and the parts are readily available at all the parts stores. Good luckwith the project and keep us posted when you ge the time to work on it.

calipers came in today. also looking at doing a np203 to np205 doubler. found a guy on ebay who makes them ( http://www.jedsmachining.com/) said he could sell me the kit for 650 and another 145 for gear and bearing to make my 205 a 32 spline input. (with some machine work)

(with some machine work) doesn't look like you can clock it very much you should check out www.northwestfab.com its fully clockable and rated op to 800hp it comes with billet pto covers and it only costs $699 here is mine

well small update. picked up a nv4500 this weekend. came out of a 99 dodge diesel. the guy i got it from got it from the owner from a trans shop who had this in his truck. twisted teh input shaft and striped the gear a little.... got it for 400... i know that seems like a lot but most places want 500 for a core and push come to shove i still save 100 buck on core charge. but i think it is rebuild able for cheaper then using it as a core. im still looking into options at this point, but im leaning to putting a upgraded out put shaft from a gm style 32 spline in it so i can still do a doubler kit. unless some one points a 29 spline input shaft for a 203 in my direction.....

sounds like you have got a plan ... trans is probably rebuild-able, can you do it yourself? or will you have a shop do it ?

a few different places sell what you need to rebuild that baby and convert the trans or transfer case to match. couple of places to start: http://www.high-impact.net/transmission_and_gear/nv4500.htmhttp://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/nv4500.htmdon't forget the castrol syntech 75-90 fluid when you put it together.

ya i seen the high impact one. but their web site is way out of date and i asked them about some part that they haven't carried in over a year and they still haven't updated their page and that was 3 months ago.
and the novak one. they dont carry parts for nv4500 and a np205. just jeep tcase. but thanks for trying.
decided im not going to use a tcase doubler. due to price of converting every thing. i would have to convert my trans to a 32 spline output, get a 32 spline input for the 203, drill the case of the 203 for the 6 bolt round pattern, get a 203 to 205 adapter(bout 700 + bucks) and find a 32 spline input for the 205 because most doubler kits use a 32 spline out put in the 203. its just easyier to convert my 23 spline np205 to a 29 spline and mate it up to the trans lol. besides i wont do enough wheeling to use the doubler kit any way.

well i can live up to my screen name finally. i got my self a 1994 cummins turbo diesel with a 4wd auto all for 500 bucks. been looking to do this swap for almost 2 years now. and finally got the exact model of the ctd that i wanted. its kinda wierd it was in a 2 wheel drive truck but the way it put to gather it had a pto port on a 4wheel drive trans. so i guess i lucked out also wondering what trans its got? and if i can do away with the computer?

junk yard is about the only option for a bolt in one ...
the 80's-90's truck ones will fit but you have modify the headlights and the grill apron mounting tabs

the easiest way to go would be to get a 91.5-93 core support so you can use the intercooler...i modified mine for the 4 headlight setup...it was easy. All i had to do was cut out the 90's stuff and bolt in the 79 stuff.. -Nick
