Some peoples kids. Can't believe they are using a chain. That thing comes loose or breaks and it's like a missle. I've seen the damage a chain can to. No thank you. Not funny to see someones ride messed up that badly. Just glad it wasn't mine.

you notice how many times somebody could have been seriously hurt in that video? one kid knelt down behind the ford and got up just before the bumper of the ford occupied the same space his head was in without even noticing, the one kid on the jeeps bumper. Stupid kids. This video should be reason enough why none of them should ever be allowed near a vehicle again.

That's funny!

It looks like the jeep had been there quite a while, probably stuck the night before and they came back the next day to get it out.  The mud looks like it froze.

Having any stacks is what posers do. Not only that but is very gaudy.  Puke Disappointed to see how many ricers have infiltrated the truck world.

But RIT, seems you might be uniformed about fords. As in all of the Power Choke series, they are twin banked vee engines. Tongue

Stuper, no you don't need a front axle to drive home. So long as you have ratchet straps. Just ask Skip.  Tongue

I'm sorry, but whether it happened to someone's friend here or not, if you're doing something like that and it happens, I can't help holding my tongue because not enough people are picked on any more in this world to keep them from doing absolutely stupid things that will eventually endanger their lives.

Done_My_Way just picked up a pto. Maybe he can help.

And I'm assuming webwheeler is Greg... I kind of preferred Richard Cranium! Lips Sealed

Guilty as charged. My RC has been in the garage for a year and hasn't hit a trail since basically Moab of 2007 So I am only talking about wheeling.

LOL Greg!!!  Really, just how hard is it to rip the axles out from under an XJ?  Hell, the damn things aren't attached to anything.  Even you "high milers" could pull that one off.   Wink

Hey, at least we were smart enough to rape and pillage our section of the Appalachians by extracting coal, oil, and such in order to create excellent wheeling areas that those social-fascist UN enviro-nazis can never again even consider labeling "wilderness" or "biospheres", so there!!!  Yeah, they got the Allegheny National Forest but that's nothing but a Black Cherry tree plantation now, so the joke's definitely on them.  Har, har.   Grin

Is that an active mine or just the left overs from taking the coal out of the ground?

could be both. That is usually what it looks like both ways. They have taken some of the old mining areas, smoothed them out and planted vegetation since the mining has stopped.

I makes awesome riding area. I used to ride that stuff every other weekend when I was younger. You need a week or two to re-coop after a whole day of riding that stuff.  Grin

Those are shale piles, the silt you saw in the video was runoff from them, they normally have 3 detention ponds to help filter out the coal dust before it hits the water.

I have seen/been in a mining shaft mouths and seen/smelled the sulfur coming out after they were flooded.

The leftovers from the breakers, Greg, otherwise known as "culm"

Here's a closer aerial view of the pile...  You can get a sense of how big it is as it almost takes up as much area as the town itself.

Coal Hill

Efforts are underway throughout the state to reclaim the many culm heaps that dot the landscape of anthracite country for use as fuel for generating electricity.  Unfortunately, it usually requires quite a bit of subsidy from the taxpayers in order to make it profitable.  There are still mines operating in the area, but definitely not on the scale they were during the last century before the oil boom and the easy availability of western low-sulfur soft coal.   Grin

But RIT, seems you might be uniformed about fords. As in all of the Power Choke series, they are twin banked vee engines. Tongue

Stuper, no you don't need a front axle to drive home. So long as you have ratchet straps. Just ask Skip.  Tongue

I was talking about about a SINGLE bank CTD having 2 stacks.

Wow, that is impressive.

If you move the viewer to the east, Greg, you can see the piles that still surround Shamokin as well.

Of course, I can see why it would be beneficial to clean these mounds up due to their negative enviromental impact and all, but hey, they do make great recreational OHV sites.

Old mining lands can be dangerous to wheel but, as always, use a bit of common sense and you'll be okay.  The Blackwood area was a favorite haunt of ours back in the day but a couple untimely deaths there helped close it off for good.   Sad

The Rausch Creek OHV park is only a stone's throw away, however.   Grin

Sounds like a lot of history in those areas. We have trails that lead to old mining towns but nothing on that grand of a scale.

I was at Blackwoods when the last person died there right before they closed it down. I saw it happen. A drunk 16 year old rolled his buggy off the edge of a 40' drop, not belted in, few out and the buggy rolled over him.  Undecided

That was the last time anyone was aloud in there "legally"  Cry  We used to camp there every memorial day for the weekend........ ride the bikes/atv's and 4x4 the trucks.......
