Do not have Autozone read your codes. I had a simple P0144 code on my 03 neon that is the evap system code. Autozone said it was a P0414 code and I shoudl replace a O2 sensor. This was before I found out that if I toggle my ignition between on and run it will show the code in the odometer screen. Pretty awesome!

my brother has an srt4. 5 speed manual. autozone told him his transmission control module is bad. He goes to the dealer, the guy looks at him, rolls his eyes, and replies "your hand looks just fine to me"....and then explains there isn't a module for manual transmissions, since the operator IS the controller. cooper30 has a pretty neat way to check codes too.

Could have been a simple mistake on Autozones part. Same numbers in a different order. I always take a piece of paper out so I can write the code down while looking at the screen but even then a person could reverse a couple numbers. Thats one reason I bought my own code reader. The mistakes are all mine then and I do my own diagnosing. Chis

The generic readers do not always provide the correct definition for the codes, and occasionally misread. This is more common in the palm size readers that do nothing but display codes.
They also will not usually read chrysler specific codes that usually start with a P1_ _ _ . P1 is usually oem specific, while P0 is generic universal codes (although specific definitions vary)

Thats where the diagnosing part comes in. If you aren't a good enough mechanic to be able to figure out what tripped the code better leave the reader on the shelf and your money in your pocket to pay the shop with. Chris

I may be wrong but atleast at this Autozone I don't think there is opretunity for human error. He went back inside after reading the code and pluged the reader inot his computer. The computer printed out a reciept with the code descriptions.
Later I learned that on my car i can toggle the key between assec. and run 3 times and then the code will apear in the odometer screen. Pretty nice. Saves me the $100 of getting my own scanner! Is this true on all late model chrysler vehicles?
I think a new gas cap has fixed the problem.

Not all Autozones have that type of reader. The ones in Casper don't. You can get some codes that way but not all of them on the newer Mopars. Chris
