I could have swore I posted a thread here but after looking I guess I didn't. Anyways a few monthes ago I pulled my 84 Power Ram into the shop to put some speakers in it and I noticed a puddle under the bed. It turns out that the fuel line had rusted through and was leaking gas. So I took the bed off: Turns out the frame had more rust that I had realized but still not too bad: But the fuel lines were a different story all together: Where the fuel was leaking onto the frame: Turns out I had a oil leak too: I picked up some chrome goodies for the motor for when I fixed the leak: Figured I'd work on the interior while I was at it:

I picked up a set of 95 Ram seats for $100 bucks from the local salvage yard: I brushed and sanded down the frame, suspension and Axles then painted it w/ chassis saver: While I was looking for parts I stumbled across this front bumper on ebay: w~~_12.JPG) I also bought a 92 core support of 89 grey ram so I'm gonna do a 91-93 grille swap too. So I started tearing down the front end:

I ordered a set of new pre-bent lines from inlinetube.com and I must say it's a nice set: After I finished the fuel lines I painted the engine bay and replaced the valve covers and gaskets: I'm waiting on a few more peices so I can wrap up the motor and then I put the new front end on. So for now I'm working on the interior: Got the 95 Ram seats mocked up and repainted the steering column:

Ok, what I've done that's not pictured:
*Picked up a dash and door panels from a newer model ram that's in better shape so I can dye them black. *Replaced my badges that were either pitting or had overspray on them from the previous owner w/ better "Power Ram" "150 Custom" badges. *Repainted the Back of the Cab & the front of the bed where the previous owner just misted them when he repainted the truck. *Replaced the hood hinges, mine had the long coil spring on it, the new ones have the round coils like the newer style trucks. *Painted the new Core Support *Began assembly on the new 91-93 Grille.
Parts I'm waiting on: New water neck Dyno-Mat New Carpet New Weatherstripping New Windsheild 4 6" Stainless Steel 100Watt Summit Offroad Lights Black Plastic Headlight Doors 91-93 Grille Extension
I'll keep the thread updated as I go.

Yup, been there, done that. I wanted just to replace the rocker gaskets on my 1975 XLCH. Then I figured, might as well do the heads. Well if I'm gonna do the heads, a few more bolts and I should do the rings. Of coarse the rods had some play in them so I had the entire engine rebuilt! New pistons, cams, carb and ignition, and I was back on the road. Oh yeah, new rims, spokes, and tires for good measure!!!

A 86-90 Power Ram I found in the junkyard. My buddies 86 has the old style so I don't know why this one had the newer style but it makes the hood alot easier to open and close.

Finally got a update for you guys! Well I finished putting the motor back together, so the next thing I did was to wrestle the core support into place. After I done that I decided to mock the front end up before I tightned everything down to see how everything was gonna fit together. Grille being mocked up: Adjusting the hood to clear new grille: Grille, Grille Extension, and Bumper Mocked into place: So tomorrow I get to tear it all back down, tighten the core support down, finish adjusting the hood, reattach the passenger side fender well, paint the grille extension, re-install the radiator, overflow tank, clutch fan etc.

Well I didn't get to start her tonight.
I did get the hood adjusted, installed the radiator, re-installed the battery tray, re-attached the passenger side fender well, painted the grille extension and installed it, and attached the horns to the new core support.
All I have to do to start it is hook up the lower radiator hose, the tranny cooler hoses, install the clutch fan, hook up the battery, fill the motor w/ oil and fill the radiator.
If nothing goes wrong she will be running tomorrow!

BIGHORN IS RUNNING!!!!
I squirted some gas in the carb and she fired up on the first try but shortly stalled from lack of fuel. But on the 2nd try the gas got up there and she fired up and ran on her own!
I'm gonna make a vid of it in a lil't bit.
Billy, I got the fender flares from a member on here. They are factory 91-93 Fender Flares.

Yea that would work. And no i dont have a black dash. They never made a black interior for the years 81-90. I would recomend getting the best looking dash you can get and painting it black with krylon fushion paint. That paint once its set in 7 days. Is a dye for the plastic. Basically wont scratch unless the plastic itself is gouged. I used it on my dash bezel. If you do any vinyl such as visors. Seats. Arm rests and pull handles use rustoleum vinyl paint. Thats also a dye an wont scratch or flake after 24-48 hours of dry time. I will put a link on here of what my arm rests and dash bezel came out like in about 15 mins.
Keep up the good work! Nd im guessing you got those valve covers off ebay? i seen them up there about 2 months ago.

They did make a black interior for those year models. My buddy has a 82 in his back yard w/ a black interior. I would have gotten the dash out of it but it's cracked.
I have a question. I'm trying to put the front bumper on but the brackets on the 86-90 bumper aren't clearing the 91-93 Grille Extension. Has anyone else had this problem? Do they use different bumper brackets on 91-93 trucks than the 86-90? I'm tempted to try and make my 84 brackets work but they seem to be shorter than the 86-90 brackets.

Probally, I got 2 part dashes I'm gonna try to make into one good dash. If not I'll just leave mine in there. But I would like to swap it out. Both of the ones I have have the vents etc for A/C. I plan on adding a/c later so the dash swap would help.

Ok guys I got some questions. Tonight I started her up, backed her out of the shop and let her run for a while I done some cleaning.
Well after running a bit I noticed something dripping under the truck. Turns out to be coolant. Now i know the water pump wasn't leaking before (and I had thought about replacing it) but my dad says he's never heard of a water pump going bad just sitting when it was fine before.
Also when I first start it up and rev the motor after it's been sitting for a few days there is a god awful squeal. It eventually goes away but it is very irritating. I replaced the belts while I had the front end apart so I know it's not that. What else could it be?
And I noticed while it was running that I hadn't tightned up one of the valve cover bolts good enough cause oil was leaking from the back of the valve cover onto the exhaust manifold, so I'm gonna tighten it tomorrow but my concern is that the truck never smoked from the exhaust before. Now it smoked the whole time. Could this be coming from the oil leaking from the valve cover and the heads not getting adequate oiling?
These things are bugging me and I'm hopping I don't have to tear my truck back down after it's running again and the front end is just about back together.

The squeling is probably the belts geting coolant on them from the water pump. Cant help ya with the oil problem though sorry. Beautiful truck btw.

Thanks for the compliment!
It can't be the belts cause the leak is from behind the belts, and it was squealing when I fired it up the first time from getting it back together. Plus it eventually goes away.

Maybe there was some stuff on the pulleys & it had to burn off. Try giving it a little run time & let all the seals work in again. They might have hardened a little from not moving in a while. But do keep a eye on everything!!

Its normal for belts to stretch a bit, and need to be readjusted after a bit.

Ok, I messed w/ it today. I tightened down the valve cover bolts cause they had become a lil' loose. I also loosened the lower radiator hose and managed to slide it up a bit so thought that could have been it. So when I started it, of course the squeal was there but there was no smoke and no leak. So I thought I had it figured out. Well I went outside to talk to my dad and when I came back the truck had warmed up and the coolant leak had came back as did the smoke from the exhaust pipe and under the hood. I found out the exhaust from under the hood is coming from where the previous oil leak and leaked oil onto the exhaust, also some smoke was coming from the tranny where tranny fluid had leaked onto the pan while sitting. So I'm gonna spray down the pan and exhaust with degreaser and try to get all the stuff off to see if that cures the smoke from the engine bay. The smoke from the tailpipe (pale white in color) and the coolant leak after the truck has me baffled though. But while I was at it I put the front bumper on as far as I could to see what it will look like till I get the 91-93 bumper brackets in:

It doesn't smell like burnt oil. I know when I punch the motor though there is black specks left on the door of the shop. Like I said it's a real pale white color, you can hardly see it unless you look for it up against something dark colored.

I was thinking a pale white color in the exhaust was burning antifreeze. Any one else on that one? Is the choke opening all the way? The little black spots from the exhaust sounds like it's running rich.

Yeah choke is opening all the way. Dunno, I'm just gonna focus on getting the interior done then worry about the smoke and leak later.
