Fortunately I am able to attend this show and be able to see some awesume vehicles. There are some really talented people out there that can almost do anything to a vehicle and make it look great.
Yes I did enjoy myself and I hope my brother-in-law and my son did too. They seem to me they did. You get to see just about any vehicle type, where it be street use (muscle car) or off-road, racing or what ever it is all there; old and new. Every aspect of the auto industry is there, from the ground up. Weather it be tires, rims, paint, electrical, sound systems, video cameras/screens, engines, exhaust, superchargers, turbos, window glass, transmissions, transfer cases, axles, shifters you name it; it is there.
I am already looking forward to next year. Plus what a better place to have this show (Las Vegas)!!

I added an additional piece of aluminum to the front of the roof rack to cover the gap between the wind deflector and the roof (about a 1-1/2" gap). Now if I was going to make another one I would form it all in the the one piece and not have to drill more holes and attachments points. Since I am not going to make another one this will do. I will take pictures and Joey will add them for me, won't you son? puttputt56

Thanks son for posting those for me. Now they can see what I was talking about where I added that piece to cover up the front gap. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
I also got the chair metal part fixed for you. I welded and braced it so it should hold up for a long time now. puttputt56

Well today I reinstalled my rifle rack and installed the hockey pucks on the drivers side seat. All the reading of the other posts about using the hockey pucks to raise it just an inch didn't say anything about the bolts not being the same size. So I went and took out one of the front bolts and went and got 8 bolts 1" longer to install the hockey pucks. Well at least on the drivers side the rear inside bolt is different than the others. Reason I don't know, but I had to go and get one that was even bigger so I could finish that side. So far I like the 1" raise in the seat. It gives me more room under the seat and when I fold the seat forward it gives me a little more room to reach in behind the seat better. Now for the other side. OH yes that other bolt was even a star head bolt were as the others were regular headed bolts (1/2" heads) . puttputt56

This morning I finished installing the hockey pucks on the passinger's side of my Jeep. I also found out that on my Jeep I had to cut a 1/4" off the hockey puck to clear the factory jack and handle. I tried to move the handle to give me clearance but it can't move so that is why I cut a 1/4" off the side of the hockey puck. I drove the Jeep around to see how it felt with the seats 1" higher and I liked it. I wouldn't go any higher if you are 6' tall. You will hit your head on things if you do. I wear mostly a base ball cap during the summer and when I hunt, I don't think now I can wear a cowboy style hat in the Jeep. puttputt56

Sam you would have to move the seat all the way back and you would beable to fit in. The seats factory slide adjustments are slanted so I think you would be OK. I am right at 6' (5'-11 3/4" & 225 lbs) and now I have just about 1" of head room to the hard top. Now the roll bars my head just clears now. I read a lot of post on the Jeep Forum and some of them have raised theirs up to 2" which would put my head into the top when it is on.Plus they do have some problems with the passenger seat hitting the sun visor when it is fulling forward. My now just touches when it is fully forward and tilted up. I didn't take any pictures of this little project, I think this is just straight forward little project. The only thing at least with my 06 Jeep is that all four bolts aren't the same size (the rear closest the center are larger than the others). Plus where the factory jack and handle is located the hockey puck needs to be cut down (off) a 1/4" to clear the handle. Can't move them and keep them in that general location because the factory molded clips are spot welded in place so there is no adjustment there.
I still have to install the metal support strap for the roof rack support across the inside top. Since the top has re-enforcing grooves I will have to add spacers to the strap in between these re-enforment grooves before I install that. That project is on the back burn for now. Today I built a security strap for my brothers trailer batteries. One of them was stolen the other day. So got that done today. It will be harder to install the batteries and I will have to do that for my brother because he will not be able to handle that trust me!! puttputt56

This past Sunday I took the Jeep up on the Ranch to check out the road conditions and to see if the squirrels were out (it has been rain/snow for the past week). I got on the ranch OK pretty much stayed on the paved road and was about to get around OK. All of the side roads were very muddy and the ones that someone tried were really dug up. There were not to many squirrels running around so didn't go get my son so we didn't have to use one of my guest permits. I did shoot 8 squirrels that I did see. I did go to the cabin were I did get into the snow.
One thing that I did notice was the 1" raise in the seats that I had installed makes it hard to see out the side window, I have to now lower my head to see out so it is hard on my neck. If I had taken the upper half door off I think it will be better.
I installed two of the three Stainless Steel boxes I got. Two in the back tub area on the wheel wells. They are not as strong as the Ammo Cans but they will serve my purposes. They lock and look great. The third one will go under the driver's side seat. I could have installed it, but at the time I didn't have a way to mount it so the lid would open (top lid). So yesterday I went and bought drawer slide. Now it will slide out and clear the seat and will be able to open the lid. I will have my son post some pictures for me after I install the driver's seat storage box on its slide.
The two in the back are 4" wide x 3" deep x 14" long and the one going under the front seat is 2" deep x 6" wide x 9" long. If the front seat one turns out OK I will get another one to go on the passenger side since the slide kit came with two slides.
Next Monday and Tuesday I will going up on the Ranch again but I will be staying in the other Cabin with our hunting group of 6-8. Hopefully we will be able to make it to the cabin since all the roads to this cabin are dirt (no pavement to this one). puttputt56

I was going to go to the Ranch again to shoot a few squirrels but its raining again so that got cancelled. I did go to the ASSE Breakfast Meeting this morning. If the weather reports are correct it doesn't look to good for the March Meets this weekend @ Famoso, Bakersfield. I will go to the Jeep Club meeting tonight.
I didn't install that other stainless steel box under the driver's seat. It covers up my Mag light so wouldn't be able to remove that. I don't want to relocate the Mag Light I like where I have it, so the box will more than likely go under the passenger seat for now. I was going to do that today but its raining now so that won't work for now. Of course when I get it installed I will take a couple of pictures.
I ordered my GPS Monday (Costco) and received it Tuesday evening. Couldn't believe it arrived that quick. I got a Garmin nuvi 780. Now to figure it out and I will order another mounting hardware so I can leave that in both vehicles (Jeep and Tundra).

I played around with the Jeep and trying to see if the stainless steel will work under the passenger seat. Well I am not satisfied with it there and it sticks out just a little to far so am not going to install it there. There just isn't enough room with that seat frame bar across the middle to have enough room at least for this box.
I did play around with the location of where I am going to mount the new GPS. Looks like I will install it on the left hand side on the window and just right of the sports bar upright near the A pillar. I will order a second mounting bracket so I can have one already installed on both the Jeep and the Tundra. Same with the power supply too. puttputt56

Mark it is a Garmin Nuvi 780 GPS (just came out). Hopefully this Sunday when I go on the Ranch I will be able to tell what kind of off road mapping it has or will need. There is a push buttom on the screen that says off road so will see what that does.
It has everything for the street, talks to you and give directions by street names etc. It also has MSN ability which I have 3 free months so will check that out to. It gives up to date road conditions, radar locations and speed traps.
I got it at Costco on the web site. It was $249 with the $100 discount. Which it came with power supply connect, computor connection for down loading and up dating. Two mounting device (one for the windshield and one for the dash. I ordered another windshield mount and power supply cord and a carrying case for it at a cost of $55.00. I like the size because I can read it with my driving glasses.
I am hoping it will work with my back up camera too. If not I will have to install that monitor too. puttputt56

Cool - let us know how it works off road. I just got a back-up cam that I'm going to try and mount under frame as a self-spotter cam ... haven't had a chance to play with it yet ... if it works out, I may get a second one to mount looking at the rear axle area. So if I get a GPS unit ... and two cams ... then I'd have three monitor on the dash On the other hand - I like tech toys, so it would make my Jeep look like some kinda spaceship ....

I could be wrong (it's been known to happen once or maybe even twice ) but the only GPS units that I have seen that you can also use the screen for backup cameras have been the indash type units.

During some of my research I have found some that will receive the back up camera signal also. On the back up camera like Mad Max he has one on the front and back. He just turns only one on so he can look at reverse or what is ahead of him. Mine is hooked up (camera) to the back up lights so when I put it in reverse power goes to the camera and sends the signal to the monitor. I could have wired it to a switch so I could turn it on when ever I wanted. I just did like the instructions said to, yes I followed the instruction this time. puttputt56

Dad and I took the jeep out on Tejon Ranch today! It was supposed to be sunny and nice all day but it ended up being overcast almost all day. Shot a few squirrels shot a few pics and took a trail I hadn't been on before. Here's a couple pics while I upload the rest to a gallery: We drove through the bottom of this ravine: More pics coming up......

The area that I took my son through yesterday on Tejon Ranch is the old area 1, which used to be the Stockers Hunting Area (basicially it is the area East of I-5 @ Fort Tejon, south boundary at the Lake and the north boundary at the California Aquiduct. The East boundary would be Area 10's west road, which is the road where the Jeep is parked where we had lunch. We shot up 68 rounds of .223 and we didn't do that well on hitting our targets, most were real long shots. Other wise I think we had a good time. Joey had to clear out alot of fallen limbs that were in the way going down that raven and we crossed the creek that is in it about 70 times.
The GPS worked OK, it had some of the dirt roads on it but a few times the screen was blank except for the vehicle icon. Hopefully Joey will be able to find the offroad button again. We couldn't find it this time. I will down load some topo maps for that area later too.
The GPS shows that my speedometer is off right at 5mph. Shows 60 and I am doing 65 per the GPS.
Thanks son for posting those pictures, can you transfer them also to the California board under Tejon Ranch!!??

I went down to the local 4wd parts outlet and ordered a set of air bags for the rear springs. They did some researching to come up with a set that would work with the 3" lift. I am hoping this will help level the suspension out and help carry the added weight that I have installed on the Jeep's rear. I have a set on my wife's 4runner and have been very pleased with those. Those have been on it for 19 years and 150,000 miles so think they will work out OK. I didn't want to just add a 1.5" spacer or new 4" springs. I will take pictures when I install them and post those when they come in. puttputt56

Thanks son for posting todays trip. The first two pictures are located up Rising Canyon just south of Fort Tejon near Tejon Ranch Headquarters. I was showing my son the picnic area that the Ranch used to use way back when. Now all their picnic/B-B-Qs are at the Tejon Ranch Horse Arena at Lebec. puttputt565

Well I called and the Air Bags for the rear of my Jeep came in so went down and picked those up. Read the instruction and it seems like a very easy install. I will take pictures as I go along and hopefully Joey will post them for me. Hope this well level out my Jeep so my front end isn't pointing into the air and people will stop flashing their headlights at me because they think I have my high beams on. puttputt56

I got the air bags in for the rear of Jeep (coil spring insert). I have installed them but I am not satisfied with them. I removed the lower 3" lift kit bump stop as per the instructions and it appears to me that the air bag is to short. So I have taken the bump stops cut a 4" diameter aluminum 1/4" plate (2 of them) drill a hole in the center of both of them (plates) then drilled two addition holes and counter sunk them. Then drilled two additional holes in the blocks (bump stops) then taped them so I could install the plates on top of them. Now the air bags should make contact with the bump stops and get rid of the space or gap between the air bag and bottom of the lower control arm/spring perch. Without this modification I had to air up the air bags to their maximum air pressure (35psi) to get the rear raised up enough to level out the Jeep. I am hoping this will solve the problem. I will call Air Lift and tell them what I had to do to make it work. They are the ones that said this bag would work with the 3" lift installed. With out the 3" lift bump stop in place it appears that the air bag is about 3" short. I have some errands to run today, but I will take pictures of what I did and the modifications to the bump stop I did. puttputt56

I took pictures of my modifications to the bump stops and I installed them back in. I also used lock tite to help secure the screws in place. So far it seems to have done what I wanted them to do. I only had to air up the Air Bags to 15# to get the rear of the Jeep to level out with the front. So now have 20# more to play with. When my son gets off work today hopefully he will post the pictures I have taken of this little project. puttputt56

I also put a foam pad between the Air Bag and the aluminum plate that I didn't take a picture of. There is one more item that came with the kit that I need to install and that was a heat shield to protect the air bag on the muffler tail pipe side (on mine it is the right side/passenger side). puttputt56
